Game reviewing professionally isn't necessarily low paying, but it is hard to get regularly paid as a freelance reviewer. But that said, it's even harder to get a regular position for a magazine unless you're really good.
I must admit I write game reviews because gaming and writing are my passions, I do it for the satisfaction, not for money.
