Since i had read Harrys comment on military science i asked him if he had felt coerced into joining the service. He said no, when he voluntarily went in to a recruiter and chatted with them, they said if he desired to join the service they would be happy to consider him. He doesnt have a career or anything like that in mind, but being nineteen with a wife and two very young children, the desire to have medical and financial support over potentially the next twenty years is a big factor in his decision making Its interesting to note that many get recruited into the military without having had a proper physical exam and at some point in their basic training they discover an injury that causes them to receive a medical discharge. In some of these cases im sure that some have put their hopes and dreams into making it in the military only to be told that "we cant use you". So while some are needlessly dying at times in the military, there are many who want to be in the military who also have their dreams dashed, and often by the military personnel in charge of recruiting them due to the desire to keep people coming in the doors...

After going threw the paperwork in the recruiters office you then have to go to meps (military evaluation processingne station) where you have a huge chat, physical, urine and blood tests and physical tests. Its not that you sign and leave. They tell you when your down there to disclose everything that you have had wrong with you or injured in the past, they not only check your physical abilities but your mental too. A girl that had gone down a while back had been disqualified over having issues with her dad and the doctor said she need couseling. The meps people are there to disqualify as many as they can, its not as easy to get in as people think. Unless you lie threw the whole thing and then if your are injured in basic and have lied about past injuries you can get 2 years in jail, loose all pays and bonus's and you get a dishonerable discharge.
Just wanted to clearify on the actual process
