Im currently working at a company trying to bring in some extra bucks since my regular business is slowing down until the early part of next year. Im working with many people of different races and ages. One of the people im working with is a 19 year old male who plans on joining the Navy if he can pass a physical. Since i had read Harrys comment on military science i asked him if he had felt coerced into joining the service. He said no, when he voluntarily went in to a recruiter and chatted with them, they said if he desired to join the service they would be happy to consider him. He doesnt have a career or anything like that in mind, but being nineteen with a wife and two very young children, the desire to have medical and financial support over potentially the next twenty years is a big factor in his decision making Its interesting to note that many get recruited into the military without having had a proper physical exam and at some point in their basic training they discover an injury that causes them to receive a medical discharge. In some of these cases im sure that some have put their hopes and dreams into making it in the military only to be told that "we cant use you". So while some are needlessly dying at times in the military, there are many who want to be in the military who also have their dreams dashed, and often by the military personnel in charge of recruiting them due to the desire to keep people coming in the doors...
