Final Fantasy 1 & 2 Advance Announced [GBA]
Which makes 4 versions of both of these games available: NES, Wonderswan Color, PS1 (Final Fantasy Origins) and now, Gameboy Advance. This release is belated, given that no Square-Enix Nintendo games have been announced beyond Sword of Mana.... So why is anyone going to go out and buy these games, again?
As far as I can tell, the graphics used are those of the Wonderswan Colour / PS1 releases, again tweaked to the GBA's specifications. So thats not particuarly appealing. No, what is more interesting are the new areas in both games. "Soul of Chaos" for Final Fantasy I is a new dungeon featuring four "Chaos Spirits" (one of the screenshots in the japanese article - Shonen Jump - which announced this suggests that one of these shall be FFVI's Ghost Train). In FFII, a new chapter named "Soul of Re-Birth" can be found, including new events, items and monsters. Other gameplay tweaks have been mentioned, but how much these will change the gameplay of the two titles, remains to be seen.
Of course, the biggest implication this news has, is that the early FFs are now being plundered for the GBA... Soon, Final Fantasy III may well be announced, and the last piece of the FF puzzle will be available to everyone outside of Japan...

Final Fantasy 1+2 Advance will be released in Japan in July. A North American release is intended, but a date has not been confirmed.
