Evangelion?
My friend told me about this anime, and i was wondering what the plot is, if its any good, and where i can watch it.
Thx |
Ah, I am no good with plot summaries (as anyone here will tell you :right: ) so I got this off of Anime Pocket Guide:
( https://community.animearchive.org/amdb/plot.html?44 ) Shinji Ikari arrives in Tokyo-3 to find an empty city. The 14 year old boy doesn't have much time to ponder this before he finds himself in the middle of a battle between the Self Defense Forces and an "Angel". In the middle of this, his ride arrives in the form of Misato (the girl that Shinji was told to wait for). Shinji is here because he was summoned by his father..the commander of NERV. Shinji is the chosen pilot for a great robot called Evangelion. Thrust into the middle of the battle, the unprepared and frightened Shinji will have to use EVA-01 to defeat the Angel. This is a series which pulls together such diverse elements as giant robots, secret experiments, child psychology, great monster battles, and the Dead Sea Scrolls, among other things, to create an extraordinarily complex and involving epic story. Shinji is the "3rd Child", one of a very special group of 14 year olds who are the ONLY ones who can pilot Evangelion. This aspect is only part of the mystery and helps to illustrate the complexity present in this series. Besides, this series has Misato...a beautiful woman who is the NERV combat commander...*and* she owns a penguin! :-) NOTE: The word "Angel" is used extensively throughout the series in English, but in Japanese, shito (Disciple) is used (i.e. the Disciples present with Jesus at the Last Supper). NOTE: If you think I got even a tenth of what this series is about in this entry...you have GOT to be kidding :-). There are many action episodes, but also a lot of important dialogue throughout. Watching with a script, or a subtitled/dubbed version is highly recommended. You are able to find this anime in your local Blockbuster for rental on DVD. The VHS version (in my town) have only dubs and I highly recommend you watch the SUB version. It's so much better. This anime is pretty good if you like mecha and dramatic plots. It's filled with mystery and odd events and the ending is questionable, but this is one of those you-can't-miss types. A majority of people on here like this anime so you might want to ask them for a better opinion. I like this anime, but it's not one of my favorites. I hope this helps. :) |
Adding to what Meryl has said, the plot undeniably kicks ass, but will forever leave you perplexed...

WOW, it seems so much better than I thought.

Like the others said, eva is an excellent series, and i can't think of many which i find more of an accomplishment in anime than this one. The story is so unbelievbably deep, and the characters are so well thought out that it's scary, and by the end, if you think you understand what happened, like i did, then watch the movies, which will seriously f*ck with your head. But it's a great series, but made in 1995, so the animation isn't as great as some of the others like bebop or some of the other newer series. But still great all in all. Highly suggested. I don't have places in my town to rent anime, so i had to buy all i got before being able to preview. But eva was one of the smartest purchases i ever made.
