deus ex item q....

what are the point of cigarettes? i have 20 but have not found a use to them yet. they dont interfere with security lasers, guards dont pick them up if i drop them in thier paths, they just seem to kill me slowly lol.

As far as I recall they don't serve any purpose, other than to kill you slowly - just like the real thing.

though not really a use, I once heard that the testers tried just about every class possibility - one was dubbed the "grenadier", which basically involved the player using only grenades, with possibly anything else that went bang. The testers apparently made it their goal to smoke every packet they found, and also to shout action movie quotes everytime there was a big explosion

Anyways... I guess the cigaretes are just part of the role-playing experience. You can act like a twenty a day person if you wish... Essentially, they're pointless but not alone - things like the cigs and the stories you can read are just what Warren Spector would be keen to call "attention" to detail - every WS game has somthing entirely pointless yet atmospheric, as does every game he indirectly influenced (System Shock 2 did the Cigerete, Soda and orange juice thing before Deus Ex for example, but them System Shock 1 did it before that)
