GT4 -- The Time Has Come

I've gone back and forth about getting GT4, but now that it's finally here, I just can't help it. I've called Gamestop and they are expecting it today!

Just looking at the screenshots, it looks like maybe it's going to be better than anything we've seen for the PS2 so far, graphically anyway. I know screens can be deceiving, so we'll see.

It's been a long time coming. Hope it lives up to the hype...

Well, I managed to get GT4 yesterday even though it was delayed by fog. Finally got it at about 8:45 last night and only got to spend a couple of hours with it, so I can't really comment too intelligently on it, but my initial impressions are pretty good.

It's everything you'd expect from the GT series, pretty much the same format that GT3 had. The thing that stood out to me the most is they added a few setup options. You can add horsepower, top end speed and you can choose what type of tires to run. You can also choose to turn tire wear on and off, which is a pretty cool addition. You can also run with or without assists (traction control and stability).

I saw all that in arcade mode, so I don't know to what degree you can use these features in career mode, since I've only just begun to get my B license.

The handling seems really good, although the cars definitely seem to handle better in the in car cams than they do in the chase cam, IMO. The chase cam gives it a much to rigid feel, to me.

The steering with the DFP is awesome. I looked for some calibration options, and couldn't find anything significant, although I didn't look long for it. To me, the steering felt great as it was, so I'm not sure I'd change anything if I did find the options to change it.

The graphics are great, of course, but they don't look quite as good as the screen shots, on my TV anyway.

Looks like a great game!

Spent about 4 more hours with GT4 last night and even though the format is basically the same as GT3, from what I've seen so far, it's alot better game. I love the graphics and the feel of everything so far.

One thing I've noticed, it seems easier to get started. GT3 seemed like a constant battle just to get in the career mode and it took forever to win some races. I got my B license last night and it was pretty tough to get, but now that I'm running some races, I can see where they made it easier on us to get started. I'm sure it will get alot harder later on, but for now at least, I'm able to win races and upgrade my car fairly easily.

I'm a little bothered by the sounds of the cars. They don't seem very realistic with some of the cars, and the screeching tires off the line sounds kinda cheesy with some cars, but so far that's the only thing I've seen that seems kinda questionable.

Can't say yet whether this is the best racing game I've ever played. It's one of the best, I know that, but I'll reserve my opinion for the "best racing game" for down the road a bit. The lack of damage definitely hurts this series, IMO, but it's not like it's a surprise that there's no damage in the GT series.

I've gotten my A license, but haven't done much with it. I've figured out that you can run races to learn the tracks and earn 500 credits each time you win, so I've been doing that to try and earn some upgrade money.

To be honest, this game is pretty complicated. I'm not sure which way to go next, lol. But, it's a solid racing game with great graphics, just what you'd expect from a GT game.

For now, I'm just focusing on upgrade money and when I feel like I've got enough of that, I'll see what I can do with it.

I still say it's a great game. Greatest racing game? I don't know yet. Worth $50?... Yes, definitely.

that game does look cool im just more into a racing game like mid night club or nfsu2 but the graphics on gt4 look tight..

Yeah, the GT series is not for everybody, that's for sure. You really have to like sim racing to be able to get into it. It's a great game though, there's no doubt about it.
