GANTZ questions
 
Does anybody know it? I have some questions about this series.

Question 1:

Spoiler: show
Who or what is GANTZ? How does it choose people to use in the game? How many GANTZ are there?


Question 2:

Spoiler: show
Who or what are aliens? Why are they being fought? Was the "Kurono alien" in the anime just a trick to make people fight each others?


Question 3:

Spoiler: show
Why some people have a clone in real life while others don't? What are the criteria supporting the choice of characters who are cloned after they die? Example of this would be Kishimoto.


Question 4:

Spoiler: show
From what I know, if you gain 100 points you can revive another character who died during missions. If this character disappears after death in real life, how can a return be explained without a clone?


Question 5:

Are they going to make a new anime series? The final of anime Stage 2 was kind of rushed and doesn't explain much about anything. It leaves so many unanswered questinos.

Well first off, I have not seen this series so I cannot provide answers to your questions, I'm sorry. :(

But as for another season, there doesn't seem to be any indication of a third season of this series. The second season (Stage 2) ended its run in Japan around 2004, but luckily the main site is still up, though only recently updated in 2005 - perhaps there may be a chance the show isn't discontinued and/or finalized.

Also, the manga of Gantz is still running in Japan as well (the latest volume to be released this December). So, there may be a chance that the studio is taking a hiatus until they can plan and get everything needed to make a third season. But this is not always the case, as seen with several series, such as Samurai Deeper Kyo. There are also other reasons, such as lack of funds, disagreement between the mangaka and studio, lack of popularity, the desire to end the series on a "contemplative note," and more.

But if none of these reasons apply, then the only way to get answers to some of your questions is to read the manga. The manga is not licensed in the US (not sure of elsewhere) so people download it; but I cannot provide any information on downloads, you'll have to search for it yourself.

Hmmm... I'm not very sure myself these questions are answered in the anime - haven't read the manga yet. I think all of your doubts can be explained by the fact the actions and decisions of GANTZ are somewhat random, and there are no exact rules valid for every mission or every character involved. The confusion experienced by the characters in the story derives from the absence of these rules and what they seem to acknowledge after each mission isn't very helpful since the rules can be arbitrarily changed.

BTW, I've read somewhere they were planning to do another series, since the first two were produced while the manga was at a very early stage. Around 20 volumes of the manga have been released so far, so the material is now available, and the creators could use it to change the impression the first (temporary?) ending was very rushed and incomplete. The fact the anime story had to differ a lot from the manga is also because the manga was still in early production, so I don't know if they really are going to make another series, or if they'll try to make it similar to the manga from that point on or not.
