The official site for the newest installment into the Tenchu universe is finally up. Be warned it is in Japanese. Although some new screenhots are up.

Tenchu:Kureni will detail the events that transpired during the year Rikimaru was trapped inside the portal. Unfortunately there will be no Rikimaru or Tesshu this time, however Ayame will return. Kureni, will introduce a new kunoichi named Rin.

The game is due out in Japan, no news of a U.K. or U.S. release though. It's extremely unlikely that this game will not show up in North America.

Here's some in depth information on the new game...

Tenchu: Kurenai is an Ayame spin off game for the PS2. It takes place during the year Rikimaru is thought to be dead. This means Tenchu: Kurenai takes place before the events of Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven and directly after the events of Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.

Rin is 16 years old and carries a special sword called Natsume. She prefers to fight bare handed (Taijutsu) though. Rin was raised by a man called Kichigoro and lived in a village called Hagakure no Sato. One day as Rin had returned from her training in the mountains, she finds out that her village had been wiped out by a mysterious clan. Rin swears revenge. In the ruins of her village she meets Ayame and mistakes her for one of the attackers.

It turns out the mysterious clan that attacked Hagakure no Sato was the Kuroya Shimatsuya group, lead by Juuzou and Futaba. The girl Futaba and Rin have grown up together in Hagakure no Sato, but have always been rivals. Futaba envies Rin and wants to kill her.

Tenchu: Kurenai is under development by K2, the same developer responsible for Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven. It will be published by From Software in Japan approximately summer 2004 and by Activision in North America and Europe approximately end of 2004.

Kurenai translates to "crimson".

TOKYO--From Software announced today that it has acquired that worldwide trademark and copyright to the Tenchu series from Activision. Japan-based From Software will be handling all development and sales of future Tenchu games. The agreement, however, does not cover rights to Tenchu game releases prior to Tenchu 3. From Software’s partner companies will distribute future releases of the Tenchu series, including the upcoming Tenchu Kurenai, overseas.

The company also plans to release the Tenchu brand in other formats besides games, although no other specific plans or details have been announced.
