The Creepiness continues

Ready to get creeped 0out again? Fresh off the best game in the series, Konami is already hard at work on SH4, scheduled for release later this year. This is the first time you're seeing it anywhere. As with the previous games in the series, and eerie premise sets the tone for the adventure ahead. Protagonist "Henry Townsend" (A resident of Ashfield (a town near Silent Hill), awakens from a nightmare only to find himself locked in his apartment. "The windows do not open, the walls can not be broken, the telephone does not work, and nobody can hear his voice from the outside,"the game producer, "Akira Yamaoka, tells us. "[The front Door is]" locked with chains and huge lock, In short, he's trapped.
On the fifth day that Henry finds himself locked in his apartment, he sees a huge hole in his bathroom wall, "Yamaoka continues, with out a hint of humor as to how bizarre that sounds. Henry cannot stop himself from climbing inside. Beyond that hole, he finds himself in a gore-filled world where there are strange creatures and ghosts. Hmmm...any idea where that could be?
And therein lies the mystery for Henry. Hen can enter the creepy hole and encounter various monstrosities, or stay in the safety of his own room, which would make for a pretty boring game. "The theme of the story line lies in solving the connection between the room where you live and the alternate world," says Yamaoka. "Why is the alternate world tied to your room?"
We can't wait till we're able to answer these questions ourselves.

SilentHill 4 takes place in totally different settings," says Yamaoka. "However, there are some names which may seem familiar to you. People you would never expect."

There is no connection in story lines, but there is a common theme of the alternate world of Silent Hill," says Yamakoa."The story is darker than in the past games

And that's it, except for the stunning screens that surely look better than SH3.

The rumor that SH4 will be using MGS3's gameplay engine was dubunked...

I like the way they are going with this one. The whole idea of staying in one place during the real world while stepping through a hole in to a f*cked up place sounds like a great idea, I just wonder how its going to work as far as explorability. Maybe all the exploring will just be in the demonic world.

This certainly sounds like its going to be a smash hit with gamers. Sounds a lot more mystified and looks like its gonna be painful. I hope Konami do take a lot of time over this or else it would be boring for the series. But the graphics from the mag look kewl.

RE: Code VX blew people off when it came on DreamCast.
RE1 remake on GameCube is mindblowing.

I have RE Dead Aim and it pretty good.... welll maybe....no its bad. I think just it could have been better. Since the first one did bad I thought maybe they learned from thier past mistakes and made this one better. I feel they rushed through it. Anyways back to the main topic. I simply can't wait for this one to come out even though I didnt even start SH3 . Im really behind schedule and need to start it. The first two freaked me out. The first SH was the first game I played on my ps1. Great game to start out with right? I was completely hooked. When the 2nd one came out I luckily got it for $20 bucks from my dads friend. I know SH 3 is going to be as amazing as the others. I just have to work on it. This SH looks promising like the others. Hopefully ill have some money when it comes out.

And that my friend is probably why we ended up with a town like Silent Hill. Everybody in the town was probably so addicted to video games they were all probably at home in their ROOMS not wanting to leave or go anywhere(see the connection?) playing the very same viedogame at once, which caused a rift between alternate dimensions and so on and so forth. And the irony of it all is the game they were playing was Silent Hill. Maybe this could be the 1st ending for Silent Hill: The Room. You know, the one that isnt as cool as the other ones when you play thru the game again.

This looks pretty good.

They've really got that gritty, dirty and upsetting kind of weirdness nailed down and it looks like that's only going further for The Room.

I lost touch with the series but I played and really liked the first Silent Hill and just bought Silent Hill 3 a short while ago.

Is it necessary to play through the second game to get a good grasp of the storyline of all the games so far? And is it worth a buy (especially now that it's Greatest Hits)?

"Among the things the magazine says (besides saying this game is definitely going to be among the games of the year) is that there will be yet another Hospital, it confirms the ghosts are immune to attacks, they say that you can look at the world outside through your window (how everything outside is perfectly normal) and the detail of the exteriors is unbelievable. Thay say the enemy AI is very good and the first weapon you find is the steel pipe. Also, some of the changes to the alternate world are done in real time not cutscene."

-"Our objetive is help him to escape from "The Room"".

- It will be more enemies and weapons than other chapters.

- The combats will surpass the investigation (puzzles)

- We will start the game unarmed. At the first minutes of the game we will find a steel pipe, a breakable bottle and a pistol. The gun is very cheap against the "Worm".

-In the apartment an Eye icon we will inform us what items we can examine.

-Text under two baby headed monster: "These two headed creatures will hunt us in certain moment of the adventure. The gloomy imagination of the designers doesn´t know limits."

-The SH4 monsters have a highly AI. They play a huge role in development of the game.

-The spectres appear from holes, suddenly opened in the walls. They seem invincible

-We can visit alternate dimensions like an abandoned prison or an old Hospital. No info related with the Hospital. I´m sure that they can´t recognize Alchemilla or Brookhaven.

-At the early stages of the game we will meet a handsome girl named Irene Galvin."This misterious girl will help us to solve some puzzles, like Mariah from SH2 do. We will meet a lot of secondary characters. Beyond the keyhole of our apartment, we will see another girl. But all remains in mistery.¿Is She the same girl? ¿What´s her role?" Aparently they put pics of Eileen and Cynthia believing that both girls are the same character. I think it´s just the typical mistake made in Hobby, like they wrote Irene instead of Eileen.

-The cinematic scenes are maded with the engine. Again, we will see bleeding walls.

I was at first too, the game is being made for the ps2 and will most likely be ported over to xbox. If it was the other way around and the game was being made from the ground up for the xbox..then i doubt the ps2 could handle it..

What it somes down to for me isn't the graphics which will most likely be a little sharper but nothing significant..no, but the xbox version will most likely be full screen. I usually play my games on big televisions. The thin black bars on the sides look pretty bad on a big TV. They're hardly noticable on a small one, although the bigger you go the more apparent the bars are. I'll be getting the xbox version myself.

You are not supposed to get it just like that. The Silent Hill story arc is a very complex one, indeed. The most important thing to understand about it is that you aren't meant to fully understand most of the ideas behind it. Some of them by far, even. The point is for the game to give you enough "strange" material and enough of a feeling of mysteriousness to leave the rest up to your imagination. This is especially evident in Silent Hill 2, where the endings produce more questions than answers. It is most definately frustrating in many aspects, especially for certain types of gamers who are used to everything being resolved at the end of a game, but if you are like me and others who have become fond of the style of the series, you begin to understand why this all makes the most sense for it to be done this way.

I can explain the purpose of pyramid head to you if you wish, by the way. That is actually made quite clear, surprisingly to a lot of people. Or atleast this would be the most widely excepted theory based on what is said and happens in the game. I would love it if the red pyramidhead or something playing the same role as this "character" showed up in SH4 just to mix it up a little.

Hey Meryl,

the game should be now available in all stores!

Konami today announced that Silent Hill 4, the new installment of the wonderful survival horror series, has now shipped to retailers in North America. The game should be soon available in all stores.

In Silent Hill 4, players assume the role of Henry Townsend, apparently an ordinary man forced to confront an inexplicable situation. Henry has been locked inside his own apartment; the only way out, apparently, is a mysterious hole appeared in the wall of the bathroom.

Henry's room becomes a sort of hub where different holes and doors lead to different frightening places; the game is played in third and first person view, according to the area you are exploring. Among the new features, a power gauge that the player can fill by holding a button to unleash more destructive blows, but also the possibility to cooperate with NPCs when fighting the disturbing monsters that populate the game.

Stay tuned on Ps2Fantasy.com for more info on Silent Hill 4. As our readers know, we have always had a special interest in Silent Hill games: Silent Hill 2 was the only game, together with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, to get a perfect score on Ps2Fantasy.com. Expect the most detailed, in-depth review in the next weeks.

yea, money is kinda tight right now. I'll be buying this game for sure, just a matter of time. My collection wouldn't be complete without the fourth installment of the series. I read the review at IGN and it seemed more accurate than the gamespot one..they tend to go into greater detail in their reviews than gamespot. The reviewer said "It like waking up hungry to a plate of lukewarm eggs" he seemed to like the game, yet it just wasn't the best game of the series.

Yeah i just finished reading some of the IGN review myself. If i was a fan of the series at this point id probably check it out, but this time around other than this forum, no one at all even mentions the game. I do believe the thrill is pretty much gone, although really it was a year ago, not much buzz even then. Im liking the Fatal Frame series, which is different than Silent Hills and RE games, and will continue checking out games along those lines, although its clearly an obscure game, Ghosthunter does have a small following, although im not sure its even available for rent...
