This is probably an old thread but WTH!

What do you guys think of the music most games have, you find it suitable for the game, annoying after a while or just crappy? And wich music would you like to hear more often in games.
Last question: wich games sport the best music( not neccesarily your favorite music but music that best suits the game).

I find most playstation 2 games have decent music, only I think they have got to break with the stereotypes of heavy rock for driving games, oriental music for fighting games etc. etc.
I would love to see a fighting game boost out hardcore punk tunes by the likes of s.o.i.a., hatebreed, madball etc.

Then again some music suits games like a glove, two of my favorites; medal of honor allied assault, thps 2. With medal of honor it's like it's music I would never listen at home but in the game it rules supreme.

I like the idea of the GTA games where you can flick through the stations to whatever you want! GTA Vice city is better than the last one as it has Grand master flash on it!yey! Altho saying that the last one had some good classical ones to do jumps to! I think all games should have radio stations on them so you can have a wide variety of choice! I thought Gran Turismo was good as it had Firestarter on it which was brilliant for racing to!

But i dont really play that many different games so i dunno about the rest!

Beserker you forgot to mention hip-hop/rap. There are racing games with rap/hip-hop like GT3: A-Spec. Snoop Dogg has the main song on it.

Well i do like all of halo's music and gta 1,2,3,VC but out of them all vice city has the coolest tracks, i like the way it like a radio station so you can flick through to suit the situation.

Is there any hip-hop in it?

I forgot about the ideal gaming music and I will go with anything I have heard in RPGs except for certain battle music.

If u mean VC no, its all 80's music, but there is a radio station called "wyldestyle" thats got rap on it most simlar to hip-hop, i think gta3 has the best hip-hop of any game.

I find in FPS or the like, where truely good tunes are few and far between, its best to put some Trance, House or Techno on. Why? because 99% of FPS music seems to be emulating those genres (it fits them better than any other, due to its fast pace - though some Rock or Metal would probably fit the bill) and failing. Being half as good as what you can hear on the radio, I just listen to whatevers in my mp3 library.

With somthing like Final Fantasy, or many other RPGs (or strategy games), I rarely listen to anything else - the only exceptions are during leveling up (who wants to hear the same 10 seconds of the overworld theme followed by the battle theme 1001 times?)... for those I just listen to anything... the same as I would if I was just idling on my PC.

The soundtract to GT3 a-spec is perfect for the game the main tract is Just a day by feeder, it is a real racing tract that suits very well. As for other games, well i do often put some music on, depending if its a game where the sound is important. If im playin say Pro Evo Soccer 2 i will put music on because the sound isnt important but if im playin a game likr MGS2 then i wont cos the sound is important to the game.

It does get boring when trying to level up, but even with music I start getting anxious to move on and I get real hungry.

The music on "Wildstyle" was not Rap similar to Hip-Hop, it is hip-hop, the music which spurned off so much artists. Grandmaster Flash and Run DMC are the best "rappers" ever IMO.

Is it possible that the american and european versions of gt3 a-spec differ from each other, cause I heard about the snoop dogg song earlier, but I can't find it in the version I got. And I also can't change the volume of the FX-music mix in the game wich I think sucks.

And you guys are right about the GTA VC system of radiostations a truly brilliant and original idea. I think gamedevelopers should take that as a example and be more creative with the music in games.

3 different kinds would be cool

rave, trance and techno

they have had these on some games(or movies based on games like MK,(but never had that cool music from the movie in the actual games, like the main theme music)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

buuuuuuut

I do like the kind of music they used in MGS which was diiferent, part trance and part orchestrated

Right this moment, I am playing Jet Set Radio Future and man it has one of the best music in a video game. Nice Rock/Techno, Electronic music. Rap as well.

I like just any music. Even the music in Mario Party 4 is nice for me. It has to suit the game ofcourse. I never get sick and tired or any game's music. But there was one game that really made me sick.....cause of its music that was "Driver"... it has the 70's porno music throughout, which in the beginning seemed nice but later really started annoying me and a couple of my friends as well.

I think Electronic/Rave music should be in every game, it really pumps up just anything.

But I really the idea for the XBOX, that in some games you can play your own music which you have recorded onto the HardDrive of the system. Thats a GREAT GREAT option. I play Sega GT2002 and Fuzion Frenzy with Eminem tracks at the back. Its just amazing that way!!!!!

Best Music I have ever heard:-
1.) Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2
2.) Shenmue II
3.) Tomb Raider
4.) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

There are many more too.....

well, I don't see rap and hip-hop as two different things. They both go into one category: music I like most.
