Yeah, so I got my SOE today, but I was very disappointed by what I saw. There's no 2 player or enough levels! It's pretty fun though, but am I the only one who is kinda disappointed?

I'm sorry to hear that :( I'm enjoying SOE very very much now. Both chaos and revolution mode have been great. Maybe you'll like it once you give it some more time.

merylsilverburg
Feb 20th, 2002, 09:46 PM
Hmm.....I guess I am the only one with complaints. Yeah, I tried the Chaos mode and I had high scores on the Chaos, 3 mins, and 5 mins. Now, I'm trying to beat the Last-Clone Standing, and I'm not doing so well. Oh well, I guess it's just me then. Sorry everyone! :)

Mercury Shadow

nothing to be sorry about :) you're entitled to your opinion. Some people were complaining about it over at ign's forum, so you're not alone.

I'm going to wait and rent it first. I'm trying really hard not to compare it to GTA3. I don't think I"ll buy it though, because there's a riot code in GTA3! Have any of you tried it?

Pedestrians riot
While playing a game, press Down, Up, Left, Up, X, R1, R2, L2, L1.

Pedestrians attack
While playing a game, press Down, Up, Left, Up, X, R1, R2, L1, L2

It is a lot different than GTA3; it seems that they didn't spend all that much time on it, but I think they were trying to make it different than GTA3. It is more based on fighting, than driving, so I can't really compare them since they're both so different. But, still, I felt dissapointed also especially when GTA3 is so good. :) Also, Sleazy P Martini, is you're going to do those codes, you might not want to save because I heard if you input any codes, you'll alter the game's ending.

That's the thing, everyone is comparing SOE to GTA3, but you shouldn't because totally different people made it. VIS worked on SOE. Also, the producer from rockstar was different for this one (something like that?) So it's not like this is a GTA add on or anything.

Mercury Shadow

Don't worry Nanjij, go in that store with confidence that SOE is a very addicting, great game :D As long as you don't pop in the disc hoping for another GTA3. It isn't short at all either.

Very true, very true. It's a good game, but nothing like GTA3. It's a very fast paced action game which is fun especially when you get to kill those clones. Sort of psychotic (sp?) though. :D

i went on special reserve and nearly everyone gave it 9 or 10 out of 10 apart from 1 exception 8.

Would you say the graphics for SOE are sorta like Jet Set Radio? They kinda remind me of eachother, with the bright colors, and some of the characters.

I never really got time to play that game

Oh no!!! :( Sorry Merc, but I'll have to disagree with you big time! Jet Set Radio uses Cel Shading giving the characters a 2-D, cartoonish-look. Yes, there are bright colors, but Jet Set Radio has that unique look, that's very Japanese based. The cel shading is used on the enviroment and the people, so the entire game looks sorta like a cartoon/anime. I love Jet Set Radio, so I would have to say that SOE is really not like it.

i got the game, its everything i expected and better, i dont know how anyone can compare it to gt3 there completely different.

anyway the game reminds me of fighting force but loads more colour(color)full and better graphics or is it just me

anyway, the only worry i have is its long life

Well, I'm not really sure how it'll alter it, but I read it in OPM magazine, PSMagazine, and EGM. I haven't finished the game myself, so I wouldn't really know. Does anyone know?

Oh...goodman, I said I wish I decided to rent it first, instead of buy it. Sorry if my words were confusing! But, when you said the younger generation might see it differently....which age range are you talking about? I'm 16, and I don't think this game is that good. Not all young people might find this game fascinating. Are you saying that the younger generation might enjoy this more, because it's more action orientated? Sorry if I sound rude, I'm not trying to be, but I'm just curious. :)

merylsilverburg
Feb 24th, 2002, 02:39 AM
Yes, I also found the game pretty uninteresting and quite boring after a few hours of playing through. It seems that, you're right, Rockstar is trying to use the same concept but in a different way, in order to make their games appear different, but in the end, the true original classic would have to be GTA. I agree with you that in GTA3, you could do so many things that doesn't relate with the mission you're on and that's what's so fun about it. SOE is mission-based, but there is no thrill in it and what's more, the scenes are very crowded and it's hard to navigate and see where you're going clearly. Especially with the millions of people filling the screen.

nanjij
Feb 24th, 2002, 09:49 AM
at 1st i loved but true maybe it may get boring the more i play it but i have played a fair 6 hours and still having lots of fun. but there is chaos mode which is always good if u cant be bothered to do missions and that last clone standing mode that is hilarious. also i feel the missions get a bit repeatitive eg: kill someone, escort someone pick something up. Also they could of made the game better by making the levels bigger, at 1st they seem huge but when uve ran around them 3 times u realise there not all that big. thats wot gta3 does have big amazing levels. How many levels does gta3 have again, ive only played about an hour of it?

i think on 1st impressions of the game i would give it 9/10
after playing the time i have maybe 7/10

Sleazy P Martini
Feb 24th, 2002, 01:00 PM
GTA3 doesn't have levels so much as when you complete a number of missions, the bridge to Stauton Island gets fixed. There are 3 sections to the city, but what I like is that even though you're doing missions in Stauton Island, you can still mess around in Portland.

Mercury Shadow
Feb 24th, 2002, 01:18 PM
I still stand with a rating of hmmm 9/10. I love the game unlike all you anti SOE people! haha. Oh well, guess we all can't like the same things.

merylsilverburg
Feb 24th, 2002, 03:17 PM
Sorry Merc, that you seem to be standing alone. :( But, even though I don't like the game as much, I'm still gonna try and finish it. :)

nanjij
Feb 25th, 2002, 08:56 AM
ive done 35% of the 2nd level
ive done all chaos apart from the 4t level.
when u complete the last clone standing u dont get a little explosion next to it like the other modes, WHY ???

trunks69420
Feb 25th, 2002, 02:07 PM
I am at exactly the same point Nanjij! What missions are you doing in china town? The reason there are no explosions next 2 last clone is that the others are for unlocking unlimited time mode.
I agree w/ meryl though, i wish there was some kind of 2 player mode:ghost:

merylsilverburg
Feb 25th, 2002, 08:02 PM
Yes! I think a 2 player would be so much more fun! I have a sister who'd like to play, but we've gotta take turns. :(

nanjij
Feb 26th, 2002, 02:11 AM
yeah trunks u changed ure avatar, i did too

anyway ive done about 70% of the 1st china town level. i had a couple of hard missions but i did them on about about 3rd time.

so let me get this straight u have too do the last clone and the time one to get unlimited time mode. BUT THERES NO EXPLOSION NEXT TO IT! ive already dont that on the 1st level i didnt get it.

trunks69420
Feb 26th, 2002, 12:59 PM
You do not have to beat the clone missions to get unlimited. Get all three explosion things and then you move onto the next stage. I have a huge problem though. I just got done w/ 39% and then, i went to play last night and my entire mem. card for SOE was wiped out!! I am so PISSED!!!!!!

Mercury Shadow
Feb 26th, 2002, 04:54 PM

nanjij
Feb 27th, 2002, 01:48 AM
im on the 3rd level o f revelutionary and i got the character freak, hes well good.
on chaos i can do everything but the last levels its really hard ive had loads of goes and i cant seem to do it. i keep getting 1,400,000 by then they have rocket launcher and they just keep shoting u with them how unfair

Uchiha Sasuke
Feb 27th, 2002, 08:32 AM
That is pretty unfair,i tell you

nanjij
Feb 28th, 2002, 08:56 AM
i still cant do it. ITS IMPOSSIBLE!
is there any tech. to use. in the manual it gives u stratagies 4 revelutionary mode but not 4 chaos mode :(

trunks69420
Feb 28th, 2002, 12:07 PM
Well, when i beat corp central it took me about 7 tries! The best strategy that i can give for corp. in chaos is to do anything that pops up on screen. That includes objectives, bonuses, ect. BUT DONT KILL CIVILIANS when the thing on the screen says
"Civilian Penalty". Any other time, it would be OK. Is that what youre looking for nanjij?

nanjij
Feb 28th, 2002, 03:54 PM
so let me get this straight u can kill the cililians unless it says cilvilian penilty, where u lose points?
i try to do as many objectives i can ive just realised like u said when i says "blow building for bonus points" it means when u blow buildings u get x2 points. how silly of me.
i tried doing the sutle tactic of only weapons when u really need to.

Thanks 4 helping, it really did

O shutup SSSnakek you liked it it was kool sensless killing and guess what i didn't spend $50 on it. I got it for free and was brand new. Its fun just mowing people down. A lot of people like it but it does lack plot and development but you cant denie you love the killin its fun. I just wish they would have put the driving factor into it like when your in the mall and there is that hummer in the garage i think you should be able to get into it and drive it around. I like the game and think its fun. Will it be a game that i will end up playing a lot. Most likly not it will be on that will be put in the back of group and collect dust but i didn't think it was that bad of a game.

haha, it's ok Meryl, I auctually have my first complaint!! But, wait, I still like the game :D I just beat Revolution mode a couple days ago, and they didn't give me any rewards! no cheats, no extra special huge weapons, no extra characters, not even much of an ending :( But, what're ya gonna do... Time to go back into Red Faction now that SOE is done.

merylsilverburg
Mar 9th, 2002, 09:55 PM
That sucks big time, Merc! How can they not give you anything for beating the Revolution mode? I mean.....after doing all that s*** and not getting anything?! Man! I couldn't even beat the Mall mission in this mode, I was so pissed. Ooohh....that's annoying.

Mercury Shadow
Mar 10th, 2002, 04:45 PM
ha, looks like EGM agrees with you guys, I just bought the new issue that reviewed SOE, here's what they said-

6.0- revolution, the game's interminably long story mode suggers from a dire fun shortage
6.5- a handy game to have around after rough weekdays in the real world
6.5- your relationship with every part of the SOE world is relegated to destroying it.

merylsilverburg
Mar 10th, 2002, 07:40 PM
Yeah, I read that too Merc. Also, on the newsletter for *********** they said it wasn't so good either. Maybe Rockstar should just stick with Grand Theft Auto...

Mercury Shadow
Mar 11th, 2002, 06:40 AM
Bullet Time is very cool and helpful. You go in slow motion, but your aiming is in real time so you can get off your shots easier. Of course, you don't have infinite bullet time, you have a meter and it fills up once and a while.

I also like the weapons in Max Payne. It's not often that video games have real life weapons such as the Desert Eagle or a Beretta pistol.
