Well I finally got the game and I am very impressed.Being a

hardcore fan of the MGS series I couldn't pass up this game.Lets

just say it enhances a lot in the stealth genre. The game develops

in tom clancey manner.Your a hired agent to investigate some

things going down in the government. You start off in a training

level that shows you the basics of the game. After you managed

to get through it your dropped off into your first mission. The

lighting in this game when i first started playing blew my

mind. The shadows cast realistically off everything, objects and

people alike. With all the advanced lighting effects in the game it

plays perfect in the gameplay. An enemy sees your shadow he'll

investigate and search out the area. Also lights can be shot out to

create a way to stay in the dark and catch some enemy's off

guard.Besides the lighting and such the moves and gadgets you

have are a nice little treat.Things such as the lockpick and the

optical camera play important roles.Unsure whats behind a door,

why not sneak the optical camera under the door and scope out

the area.If you come across a lockdoor.The game will show a 3d

diagram of the lock and you will have to pick the lock according to

the vibrations you get from your controller. Now as for moves sam

(the main character) is pretty loaded. He can perform actions alike

solid snake and some of his own such as the ability to jump up

into a corridor and suspend in midair with his legs.Sam can also

interrogate enemies for needed info while in his grasp making the

game more indepth. On another note the character models and

animations are not on the same level as MGS2, nothing seemed

very fluid ala MGS but its still a freakin blast to play. The difficulty

on a plus side is for the people with good patience, the game is

not easy by anymeans. All and All its a great great stealth action

game and fans of MGS should really give it a try.If there are any

questions please post.

Is it already out, or is it the demo you are talking about?
Is it only for X Box, or will it be available for PS2 as well?

I believe I will own this game as well, hearing this from someone who likes MGS and HALO I'm pretty sure I'll like this one as well :D

It's currently out only for X-box, and unless it already has, it should be out for Pc as well. There's a hint at a PS2 version being released but this is only rumour and I personally think it ain't going to happen. Would be sweet though...

How is the gameplay? I heard some rumors about some severe slowdowns, but now those rumors are stuck in my head.

Truthfully i havent encountered a slowdown yet, but i think there was one level that ign was talking about that had some little aches in it but it didnt take away from the gameplay.Anyways trust me man the game is a solid blast.

I pre-ordered the game and got it on release date. Well, I can say that I really love it. The gameplay is great, it reminds me more of Hitman 2 (but with more linear levels) than of Metal Gear Solid 2, and it's just amazing the amount of moves you have at your disposal. Real-time shadows and lighting are really the best I've ever seen in a game, even if in other departments the graphic engine is not that exciting. What I especially didn't like are the character edges... I don't know how to say, but they look a bit too blocky. When you are in the shadows you won't notice that, but in certain parts of the game it's evident. Also the animations are not as good as the ones I've seen in other Playstation 2 and Xbox games; Hitman 2 had much smoother character movements on my opinion. For example, when Sam Fisher jumps it's like he's floating in the air. Then the story... it's realistic, but for some reason I couldn't really like machoman Sam Fisher as I like Solid Snake or Agent 47... I don't know, maybe everything is too realistic, but the game sometimes give me the sensation that Sam Fisher is more a PE teacher than a "hero".

Don't get me wrong, I'd put this game in my #2 spot of favorite Xbox games, just after Morrowind.

It depends on what you mean by slowdown. I have seen absolutely no sign of visual slowdown after a good 20 hours of gameplay. Now, I did hear people complain that the game was too slow, but I don't think they understand the point of stealth.

"Hey! I keep running out of bullets! All I do is shoot everybody"
"Hey! When I run up to a guy he shoots me in the head before I can shoot him! Thats not fair!"
"Hey! blah blah blah..."

I guess they don't realize that steath doesn't mean running around in the middle of the day and shooting everyone in the head.

I don't think the game is slow either... it's exciting the way it is, and the less you shoot, the more exciting it gets.

But why nobody else noticed the edgy animations? I noticed them, and thought they looked awful sometimes. I didn't say nothing to my friend, but when he came to see the game he said exactly "that Sam Fishing (yes, with the ing) moves like Robocop". On my opinion it doesn't move like Robocop, but it seems like some frame is missing during the animations. Why couldn't they have the same smoothness I saw on Metal Gear? The Xbox should handle more than that!

Umm i hope you know that animations aren't due to the power of the console but the developers working with it.Remember that. :)

I mean sudden frame-rate drops. Don't bother answering anymore though, I got my answer, I rented an X-BOX and Splinter Cell. Superb.

Yes, I know that, I was in fact complaining. Maybe the right question is "Is it possible that Ubi Soft was unable to make smoother animations for this game?".;)

Trust me man.Tom Clancy games all carry a burden of not having smooth animations.Just be glad that splinter cell is one of the smoothest you'll see.

Really?? I didn't know that! Is that a sort of curse?!

Btw, I don't want to be the bad guy here. I like the game a lot, and lighting is amazing, just I'm shocked to see that no reviewer wrote anything about the animations (but you did SSSnake, thanks!).

What I like is that the game is also so challenging. This is one of those "smart" games you know.

Ubi Soft is kicking butt and taking names with their XBox Clancy games... I now own splinter cell for my 1 player satisfaction and Ghost Recon for XBL play. It is freaking awesome, I anticipate days off work so I can get a little extra carnage in. As for buying an xbox for that one game, that is a little extreme. I'd look around and see if there are any other games that tickle your fancy.

Want my opinion? No!

I bought my Xbox for Morrowind first and foremost, then to play Halo and soon to come KOTOR.

The point is, Splinter Cell IS great, but it's completely different from MGS. Don't buy the game expecting characters like Solid Snake or Grey Fox, and don't buy the game expecting great cutscenes. Splinter Cell is mission based, MGS is story-driven; Splinter Cell is about the save U.S. from bad terrorists thing, Metal Gear Solid has a storyline that simply reach higher levels! The gameplay of Splinter Cell is more difficult since is based on a trial and error structure, the gameplay of Metal Gear Solid let you proceed in the adventure without always going back to the beginning of a mission.

Really, these games are so different... try to find some other game for your Ps2, there are many great ones.

Actually I think the first thing that turned people on to was the sneaking and inflitration parts of MGS not really the story, but it came as an added bonus.Lets just say if you like the sneaking elements of MGS and MGS2 you'll be blow away by splinter cell.Story wise the game is good but it can't touch MGS.

Actually, Europe is about to start beta testing! I'm not sure how they are doing beta signups for Europeans but you might want to keep tuned to www.xbox.com to find out. The US price is 50 dollars, which includes the setup disk, the voice communicator and online versions of MotoGP and Whacked! I've noticed Xbox stuff in Europe seems to go for a bit cheaper than it does Stateside so you might not even have to pay that much. Who knows.

Now, I am not saying there is no monthly pay all together, but there is no monthly pay for a full year. After that it is anyone's guess.

As far as downloadable content, the only I have encountered thus far is downloading new rosters with NFL 2K3, new characters and levels with Toejam and Earl 3 and Splinter Cell will have downloadable content also.

the second chinese embassy level is out of hand..

the story reminds of the Sum of All Fears film..pretty good stuff. Alot more realistic than MGS..the story i mean
