*jawdrops at new specs* Spank, you lucky sod. :D Wish I had that computer. >_> I'm thinking about snagging an Alienware Area 51, myself. I'm not so good at this point with hardware that I could build my own without it ending up wrong in many, many ways. I just got UT 2003 too and my supposed monster of a computer is running it at 20 fps with jaggarific graphics, so I think it's time to upgrade however I can.. but here they are anyway.

P4- 1.8 Ghz
512 MB RDRAM
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro (..which is actually a 32 MB card. :frust: Bastards marked it as being a GeForce2 64MB one when I bought this.)
SoundMAX Integrated (argh! unupgradeable) Digital Audio
DVD/CD-RW
80 Gigabytes total HD
XP Home Edition

Question, did all of you get tricked into buying a system with only a 32MB vid card like I did, or was my local CompUSA unique in mismarking the product? :D

Juuuust thought I'd quote this so it can't be edited/deleted later. :D

"Not that good of a computer"? That right there proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that you're lying. Not only are Alienware PC's some of the best on the market but the specs you listed are the absolute peak of gaming PC's. The only way you could get better is if you linked up dual processors and went with 2 Gigabytes of ram (which you will never use all of)..

Y'know what? Just be quiet. Your lying is annoying.

mine is a one and a half year-old PC built from a four year old one... I had to upgrade myself because my parents won't do it themselves (ouchies!).. anyways... it's currently a:

- 900Mhz Athlon*
- 512Mb 133mhz SDRAM*
- MSi Motherboard* (don't know too many details on this one... I've had about 3 MBs and they always screw-up.... but this one is pretty Red Colour!)
- GeForce2 Pro Golden Sample (thats "borrowed" - I only "own" an MX*)
- 60gb Seagate Barracuda*
- 16x DVD drive*
- 10/100 Network Card*
- Sounblaster Live! Value
- Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 speakers
- 56k Modem (28k Connection - but people feel pretty stupid if I beat them  Edit: And that actually happened on Thursday )
- 15" ADi Monitor
- Flatbed Scanner and hp Printer

(all * thingys are the stuff I've brought to replace the parts that either stopped working, or didn't perform well)
Its all aging a bit now... but then I've stopped playing PC games as much... but I will get a GeForce4 4200 and a 1.8Ghz processor sometime... when money starts falling from the sky or somthing :/
Edit2: Processors are pretty cheap again... I think i'll try and get a XP2000 or above sometime...

Thats a must: the most advanced game graphic wise on the PC at the mo is most certainly UT2003... It runs at nothing special on my GeForce 2 Pro (ouchies) - as for the sound card point, surely you have a free PCI slot? - I've got integrated audio (most people do) but I can still by-pass it with my live!...

I did hear that some company brought out an nforce-motherboard that has a Ti4200 intergrated.... perhaps you should consider getting that if you have enough money: It is Red as well! (Gainward or MSI ?)

hey, Artist, i've noticed, why do you spell red with a capital R? as in Red?...just curious.

EDIT: I sincerely doubt there is a mobo on the market with 4200 integrated...its pointless. the whole thing about integrated graphics + sound is that it is cheap+low end, now, where would a GeForce4 Ti fit into this?

Maybe in like a year or too tho...

True... but NForce Motherboards are supposed to be designed for a different market to all other integrated ones, and not to be put into trashy pcs picked up from places like PCWorld...

Anyways... were both kind of right here ^_^ - the nforce has only got as far as a GF4 MX being integrated , but the leadtek one here (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_AMD_Motherboards_68.html) comes with a 64mb Ti4200, at about £165 (not sure how many dollars or whatever), which is kinda good...

But no red chipset. and I have no idea why I spelt red with a capital ^_^ - I do stupid capitalisations in all my writing (which usually brings me down a grade or two...)

As well as constantly lying all the time, I sincerely hope you're not now gonna start telling people what they can and can't talk about...

I think i'd have trouble agreeing with you there.
The price of the average Pentium 4 is... ludricrous.
Athlon XP 2600+ = £270
P4 2.60 = £370
(£100 is a lot of money)
The only benefit with them, is that they've released higher speeds: Athlons are up to 2.13Ghz (or as they say, the same speed as a 2.6Ghz P4) and P4s go up to 2.8Ghz. Which cost just under £500, so who frankly cares about them. (Intel Motherboards are expensive as well.) But the Athlon is a better processor if they can get it at the same speed from a lower speed surely?
