I am known to many of my freinds as a "verbal assassinator" cause I love giving somone a noun/adjective thrashing.
I've studied the English language growing up and no disrepect to any other culture-it's the one I love speaking the most (I speak Latin and Spanish fluently-not Latin though)
See the reason is cause it's constantly changing. Slang is great, but the english language doesn't even stick to rules. We all live on one continent-but still you can go 45 minutes away and say something that no one knows.......especially New York. New Jersey has it dialect that my bro uses-and soemtimes I don't know what the hizz he meant.

I mean I have an accent that I never knew I had...I say NEW YOWRK-while other people say NEW YORK! But what I like is the phrases. Some are pretty funny
Does anyone have things like phrases that is used only in their parts..?
Over here:
When your angry-
"I'm heated" or "I'm tight"
When a boy/girl freind has control over the other-
"He/She is on Smash" or "on Lock"
Saying your going to the supermarket is saying your going to the supermarket but:
Whenyour headed to the Corner Store-"I'm goin to the Sti-nore"

I perfectly understand what you mean. As for me, I am still not very aware of this about myself... you see, actually english is not my first language, but spanish is. But the same thing happens in my native country with spanish, believe me :laugh:

A dominican can walk to peurto rican and say stuff they wouldn't understand. I sometimes just look at people and :peoples:

Spanish is about to be my second language. This is my second year. I'm already behind.

But anyways I think we do say things like that, but it's so normal for me I couldn't just tell you at the top of my head.

People up here in New England say "wicked." Like..."that's wicked cool" or add wicked to just about anything they can think of.

Yeah, that thing happens to me when I hear a mexican talking.... damn, is like if it was another dialect :laugh:

In my native country things change also a lot from one city to the other, but you usually understand with no problem what they mean. As for me, I could say that my spanish is neutral. No accent, just the language the way it is supposed to be spoken. Of course, that is excluding the slangs.

And yeah, englishmen are more likely to call you mate than fella or bud.

I have a freind from Boston who has the "Boston" accent.
She says thing like "That is Wicked Retarded" (pronounced reetadid)
I've heard a lot of people say hella....like "This food is hella good!"

New Yorkins say
something is hot or bangin when something looks or feels good-"That beat is hot" or "That chick is bangin"
the word Blazin could be used also but that means sexual contact over here "You and her are blazin?"

Yeah Bostonians can be something else...hehe. If they say "Where are my cah kees?" by the time you realize they're not talking about pants its too late to help them anymore. I live about 50 miles away from Boston, where we actually have a rather different accent.

Hey do people you know say "random" a lot? Like do they say "That was random." or "She's a pretty random person." or "He's being random today." ?

Ooh what a wonderful thread. I can rant now. :D See, in other places there are really great slang to use and all, but where I live, in this sh*tty small ass town, everyone is soooo freakin' behind and can come up with nothing new..they basically use the ones they hear on MTV or come up with stupid stuff. :sarcasm: So....the ones that they still use over here (damn, I'm embarrassed to even list it..oh and to answer the question, no there are no "phrases" that are only used in my town):

"Sweet" (Omg...so MANY TIMES....only 'cause it's the "latest" word to hit the town :disturb: )

"slow" We say it all the time, That's our main word. Sometimes use "retard" or "re-tarded"

Ok I was in boston this summer and I know exactly what you mean. "Lets get in the cah, and go to the hahba, and see the boots come to the dacks."

I am from Canada, like right in the middle of canada, im am an hour north of north dakota for you americans who still are like huh? or in the middle of north america for you overseas people.

Canadians are famous for saying eh! sounds like the letter A its in place of a question. For example, remove the who, what, when, where, why, how, are you, or you're from the front of a sentance and put eh at the end. "You're going out tonight right?" is now "Going out tonight, eh?" "Why were you out late last night?" is now "out late last night, eh!"

SOme of the things around here right now are

"oh fo sho" - basically means yes (comes from, oh for sure)
"thats nifty" - its cool
"meh" - means whatever you want it to, but is used when someone asks you a question. "are you feeling ok?" "meh"
"funny" - its not new, but i catch myslef saying that rather then laughing.
"BURN or BURNT" -if you make a sweet comeback to someone and they pause for a second you yell BURN or I just Burnt you.

and if you ever hurt somewher the thing to say here is iotimy (spelling) "eee auto me" with the place you hurt in front of it. Yeah its confusing but let me give examples

if your back hurts you need a backiotimy
if your neck hurts you need a neckiotimy
foot "footiotimy"

so right now i need an eariotimy cause my ears hurt cause its cold out side and snowing and my ear got really cold.

I have more, but im tired, i will think of them while i sleep.

"Hit me on the jack!" is call me on the cell phone

An intresting one is how people say bye now. We say "1"-now the break down of this is from slang. "One love" was a phrase used way back when and was a song, so people shortened it to "1".
So you say
"I'll hit you on the jack later to see whats poppin, aiight?1!"

I said this phrase today and I caught myself since its second nature.

See in some parts of NY, the slang is just throwing tongue frills on words, if anyones heard NOREAGA the rapper, he made this famous.

"Yo, stop by the stinore and pick up some jizzuce cause you killed it!" Stop bye the store and get juice because you finished it!

Back in April of this year I went to Dallas, TX for a week. Over there I met a few native Texans on some nights out. One of the things we ended up doing (whilst drunk of course!) was swapping slang terms - which provided no end of amusement.

So as the titles says, let's hear them and see an example use of. To start with I'll share some Liverpudlian terms.

Term: (Pronnounciation) Explanation
Example use

Scouser: (Skow-ser) A Liverpool native
I'm a Scouser

Antwacky: (Ann Twackee) Rubbish, old-fashioned. Derives from antiquated.
That car is antwacky

Minging: (Ming-ing) Horrible or ugly
That sour milk was minging
That girl is a minger

Hoad: (Hode) Rubbish
That Army Men game is hoad!

Kidder: (Kid-da) Male Mate or person
Alright there Kidder?

Do one!: (Do one) Go away please
Do one a**ehole!

I can't personally think of many examples from my area.... perhaps the english we speak is to good or somthing ^_^, but there is one guy in my Form who tends to make up his own words - add "erizor" to the end of a word and you're there:

Bangerizor (a thing that is "banging" - or "great")
Chiperizor (a cork borer :laugh: )
Selecterizor (anything used to "select" somthing - eg. a remote control)

other popular "mileslish" terms:

Selecta (see Selectorizor)
Banging ("great")
Phagocyte (a biological term - i think - but here used as an alternative to "***got", or simply someone who smokes.)

Oh and regarding a remote control, the class once had an arguement over what we call it - most people call it the "remote" or "remote control", but "selecta", "selectorizor" and the "Tricks" (the funniest in my opinion ^_^) were offered by a number of peoples ^_^

Edit: I forgot the "Milesman" - the German words we have to suffer ^_^:

"Schnide! Schnide! Schnelenbeiss!" - not sure about the spelling, but the last word actually means "snackbar" or something - he usually chants this whilst pulling his trousers up to belly height :laugh:

"Kurunta" - my actually mean somthing rude, but he says it all the time anyway.

"Tashniklov" - denotes anyone with a 'tache :happy:
