Can I buy a Playstation 2 in the USA and use it in Australia ? Do I require any add-ons?

Please help, I am new to Playstation 2.

Thanks

I received a similar e-mail a few days ago. Here is my answer:

Unfortunately U.S. Ps2 and Australian Ps2 are not compatible.
First of all, the U.S. Ps2 are NTSC, while the Australian ones are PAL - in other words, they are designed for different video systems; adding to that, in Australia 220V sockets are used , while in U.S. 110V ones.

In order to play with your U.S. console in Australia, you'll need:

1- A Television which supports the NTSC signal - great part of the new TVs from Philips, Sony and others have this feature - or an NTSC/PAL adapter. This can be bought on Internet shops like www.lik-sang.com
2 - A stepdown converter to connect the Us console to the Australian sockets. You can find it in the shop mentioned above.

Also remember that with a U.S. console, you will be able to play only U.S. games and DVDs.

Hope this helps.
