Sorry, MakgSnake! It was because Otacon wasn't there to save her while she was swimming in the pool they owned. Otacon and her used to swim together all the time when they were kids, but then Otacon was too "busy" with the stepmom to notice Emma nearly drowning in the pool. Guess Otacon's not all that innocent and brainiac, huh?
