Perfect Blue
- Drama/ Rex Entertainment
The way I see it, Perfect Blue is either a love it or hate it anime. If you're the type of person who only likes to watch comedy, much action, and "igneous" characters and nothing without, then this anime isn't what you're looking for. This is most definitely not for children, either, as it is full of adult content, blood, and nudity. Perfect Blue is part murder mystery with plot twist that will have you on the edge of your seat, as well as much graphic content. Unfortunately, the first couple of minutes do not lead on to the great anime this really is. In other words; it's somewhat boring, at first. It's unimaginative characters are also another drawback along with the rather bland music. However, what Perfect Blue lacks in character design and enjoyable music, it makes up for with it's rich plot and incredible suspence. Probably the most brilliant part of this anime is the way the script keeps the audience in the dark and roams around back and forth in the viewer's mind without giving definite answers. What part is real and what part is a dream ? Who really is Mima (Mimarin) ? The way these answers seem to be in your grasp and then have a sudden shift only adds to the plus of this excellent suspence thriller. This story is very realistics, and had the character feelings and thoughts not been carefully inspired, this would have been a disaster. Do yourselves a favor and give this anime a go. If you're looking for something different, then this is a great way to go. |

The characters are unimaginative for the reason that it's trying to aim for the realistic setting. Since pop music is pretty popular in Japan and pop idols/icons are groveled and obsessed over, this is why they chose to use a pop icon and music in this movie. I'm pretty sure this anime wouldn't have the same uneasy aura and realistic qualities if the characters had been more "anime" and the music punk rock or something else. Quote:
