FLCL: should I get it?

I've heard many saying this series is fantastic, that it is from Gainax so it can't be bad, that is one of the funniest ever and much more. Other people said it's pointless, it has not a plot or characters you can enjoy following, that 6 eps is too little to waste money on it. Well I don't mind if it's only 6 eps as long as it is good, but regarding the rest? Is it good or not? I can't decide if getting this series on DVD because of the contrasting opinions: as I said there are enthusiastic fans and those who seem to be unable to like it at all. No opinions in the middle among the two. I have other series I'm curious to watch other than this one, so if it's good I'll get FLCL, if it's not I'll get something else.

Can you help me deciding?

There are a lot of FLCL fans around here, but I am not particularly one of them. I don't know....maybe I'm just uptight, but I just didn't really like this series for some reason. I know it's supposed to be a comedy, featuring parodies/spoofs of other series, but the whole anime was just so messy and hectic and I didn't like the characters much. I lost interest around episode 2/3.

I would say, if you enjoy watching bizarre or odd (not in a mysterious, dark way) humor, then this would be something to watch. I'm not sure, but I think it's similar to that other series Excel Saga (which I refuse to see as well because it's just too loud and messy IMO) but I'm no expert on this. Sorry if I couldn't help you as much. ^^;;;

if you're into weird stuff you should really get the dvds. the show is just awesome, one of my favorite anime ive seen, gainax people were probably on crack when then they made this anime.

i liked FLCL...but i dont call myself a fan

i like twisted anime series, like lain, boogiepop phantom, flcl, puni puni poemi

I a low budget anime watcher (that means I don't have a lot of money so I watch anything that comes on the cable) and if you're like me then FLCL came as a great relief. However, it was just supposed to be animators blowing off steam so it may not be worth the DVD price.

Okay, for one, yes, the series is worth the money. It's, of course, funny as all hell, and the animation runs quite well with the series. But the big thing i want to address is the issue on "no story". That's bull shit. If you watch the show all the way through, you realize that there is a lot of depth and meaning undernieth all of the wacked out nonsence. It is, plain to say, from Gianax. Even Abenobashi has depth in it's plot, the only difference between Abenobashi and FLCL is that FLCL doesn't give you the point of the show flat out, and that you have to understand it on your own. With that, you will truely enjoy the show for much more than what most viewers make it out to be.

That's just my opinion though.

actually the series is not worth the money

but for the wrong reason

I love FLCL, animation/music/weird story/ humor is just fun mind candy. One of the newer animes I took a great liking to but

and this is a huge rear end

its a short series which means its possible to rock the whole thing into one dvd..two at most. But instead, they shoved 2 episodes per dvd, costing average 20 bucks each.....thats absurd. $50+ for somethin that shouldve been no less than $30?

its a great series, no doubt about it..........but geez, they really want to hit people in the pockets

Yah, FLCL is awesome. Comedy with no point or even with a point is always good. Just can't live without. If I never saw it, I would probably be banging my head against a wall because of that. lol

Following people's advice I decided to get it and I must say I enjoyed it. Really funny stuff, excellent to cheer you up too. Too bad there arent many funny series around, like this one...
