Talking Infogrames= Atari

Got it off IGN...

Quote:
May 07, 2003 - The Infogrames name is no more. Effective immediately, the company has changed its name to Atari. At least now there won't be any more arguments about how to pronounce their name.

The company has been using the Atari name as a brand on some of its titles for months now, but the new name nevertheless represents a sweeping change. From Infogrames Entertainment to its subsidiary Infogrames Interactive, all aspects of the company will be henceforth known as Atari. Heck, the company's NASDAQ symbol has even been changed to ATAR.

"In any language, Atari is synonymous with video games and it's recognized for transforming entertainment," said Bruno Bonnell, Chairman and CEO of IESA and Atari. "Our industry is now outpacing the Hollywood box office and by choosing Atari as our signature, we are demonstrating our commitment to this growth and our determination to take entertainment to the next level for gamers worldwide.

"Perhaps the greatest part of the Atari legacy is the recipe for creating games that capture an audience's imagination: creative ideas, the talent to bring them to life, and the passion to do so," said Mr. Bonnell. "Those elements have never been more abundant within our Company than they are right now. We have the strongest line up of properties we have ever had, deep ties with some of the world's most talented game developers, and an excitement about the future that's palpable."

So now that Infogrames is Atari, does that mean that we'll see new versions of classic Atari games? An Atari press release hints at this possibility, mentioning a commitment to create hot new properties as well as "transport revered older titles into the future." Sweet.

as the only Inforgrames games i have are UT2003 and Unreal 2, which are labeled Atari already, this doesn't effect me....

...not that a company changing its name has any real effect on anything really. Except the potential loss of braincells from hitting your head against the wall, asking the question "why bother?!". What is so special about the Atari name anyway: Atari is either remembered for making the consoles that never got a look in (thanks to Nintendo and Sega) or not remembered at all, as many were still on a potty when they were actually around.

oh well.... sometimes nothing which is french makes sense to me.

Company Name Changes... bah

I remember when Jif changed their name to Cif to match the European name for it. Plus they had a big Advertisemnt campaign... why?

Anyways I dont like Atari or Infogrammes or whatever they're called (See I'm confused already).

I love atari
Man, the 200(I think it's called that) was the shit. It was the first console I ever laid my eyes on( you never forget your first love right.. ) Before that you only had the commodore 64 with the tape problem were you had to rewind and fastforward in order to find the game you wanted to play.
Plus the Atari ST is still used by a lot of producers to make great music on( it's still sort of a standard with a lot of fanatics).
Damn now I feel old...
