Angry Barbarian.

Woah! I love fighting games! I read about this new type of fighting game that is due out in June 4, 2002 called: Barabians. It's published by Tidus Interactive and
it seems to be very different than most. It's supposed to be combined with RPG and action elements which should make the game even more fun to play. Frankly, Fighting games, IMO, are getting a tad bit repetitive and this sure is different! Well, here's the review I found:
===========================================

As we have seen from the various games introduced at this year’s E3, many genres are drastically changing and many games are now breaking through genre barriers, becoming unclassifiable. The fighting genre is no exception to this new wave of games, as demonstrated by Titus’ new game “Barbarian.”

Typically, fighting games have been linear and very simple overall, especially in their storylines. Barbarian is very different from this classic image of a fighting game, which is partially because of its extensive storyline. In a nutshell, it is up to gamers to stop the evil Zaugg once and for all by fighting their way through various enemy characters in quest mode. The cool thing is that the story will vary depending on what character is chosen as well as on the outcomes of the different battles. There are a total of 300 different story branches, so there’s reason to play it more than once, unlike a typical fighting game.

Within this mode there are 10 characters to choose from and their attributes can be built up depending on the user’s fighting preferences. These attributes include: speed, magical attacks, fighting combos, physical strength (which is necessary for picking up objects), and more. Surprisingly, it’s not possible to max out a character, so it’s always beneficial to build up stat points. This allows for quite a variety of characters, since most likely no two people will by the same amount of each type of attributes. What a great idea!

Once the single-player mode has been tackled, there’s a very fun multiplayer mode that allows for up to four players to get in on the action (with the PS2 multi-tap, of course). This mode allows gamers to use their built up characters, so the fighting is quite unique, since the characters can be very different from on another.

The gameplay itself is very fast-paced and extremely unique. The controls are actually very easy to learn and the combos can be performed with ease. Each character has magic projectiles that can be fired in addition to a more serious rune attack. For weapons, characters can take objects from walls, trees out of the ground and more, but heavier objects require more physical strength, so not everyone can lift them. Also, depending on their stats, characters may be able to climb walls, poles and even hang from the ceiling.

The environments are fairly detailed and they are a lot bigger than the typical fighting arena. This is a good thing since there can be up to 8 characters on the screen at a time (4 human and 4 AI). The camera view can also be set as close up or further away. Many parts of the environment are interactive too, and it’s often possible to break through walls and floors of levels to get to another fighting area.

Barbarian is a great example of the new breed of fighting games and expect that many others will follow in its footsteps. It has both RPG and action elements, which make it a blast to play. Despite this though, the actual fighting is still the main focus of the game and it shows, especially in multiplayer mode.

Whta do you guys think about it?
