FF11 was released in Japan as far as i remember. Last i heard, we have to wait til 2004 before an American release.
FF12 is still in production for now.

FFXII
https://www.ps2fantasy.com/forums/sho...&threadid=6546 <- this thread contains all we do know about FFXII... very, very little. And all we need to know about when we'll know more: September's Tokyo Game Show. FFXI As for FFXI, its been out in Japan for over a year now, and there are many dedicated sites to the game. First and most important fact: its online only. No Single Player. To play it on PS2 you're going to need a Network Adaptor, a PS2 Hard Drive, and at least two rare miracles (eg. Pigs Flying or Hell Freezing over) for Sony and Square to release the PS2 version in Europe. (the PC Version should get here no problem). I know a fair bit about the story (I did a large Graphics Products Project and designed a Stand, Cover and Manual for the game), but its worth mentioning that the story doesn't truely progress. (at least at a great pace) The Story The game world is called Vana'diel, a world born from the light of the one Crystal. Many years ago, Mighty Gods roamed the world and it was one of beauty and peace, but the gods fell into slumber (ie. they got bored with the whole affair). In this time, the kingdoms of Vana'diel came forth, along with the dark one known as the "Shadow Lord". Threatened by the Shadow Lord and his dark hordes, the kingdom's united and supposedly defeated him... but now he is set to return. Character Creation This is probably the most comprehensive and interesting part of the game. First you choose a race, and a gender: - Hume - M & F - essentially "Humans" - Pretty good at Anything (fairly good points in all statistics) - Elvaan - M & F - essentially "elves" - Good Fighters and Wht Mages (High Spr) - Taratarus - M & F - Knee High Pointy Nosed little peoples - Excellent Mages (High Mag) - Mithra - Female Only - Cat Women - Good Theifs (high Dex and Agi) - Galka - Male Only - Massive Blokes with Hairy Faces - Great Fighters / Monks (Unrivialed Str / Vit but pitiful Agi / Dex) Then there are multiple Face and Height combinations to choose. Then you may pick a Name and a starting job class - The Job System If you've ever played FF1, you'll know the jobs you start with - Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Monk and Thief. By doing quests you can obtain more jobs than those you start with, and from memory the complete list also includes: Bard, Paladin, Dark Knight, Monster Tamer (and some others i think i've forgotten). Further to this, the 1st Expansion brought at least 2 new jobs - Dragoons and Summoners (which were obviously brought in by demand as they're very popular jobs - the balance of the game had to be maintained however). Each Job has a load of abilites, and as you battle and gain Job Experience, you get more and more of them. You're are not limited to 1 job at a time: you can set a job as secondary, so a Black Mage could complement their Black Magic with White Magic as a White Mage (Secondary). However, when set as a secondary job, you only have the abilites of Half the job level it is at: level the job up to 30, put it as secondary and it'll only be as good as if Level 15. Job changes are done in your "Mog House" - a place in you starting kingdom where you can rest, store item, chill out, and even decorate. Transport One interesting thing I once heard is that a journey from one side of the game world to the other, without stopping, and going by foot would take about half and hour to an hour. Thankfully, you can opt to rent a Chocobo to cover some distance, or you can buy tickets on boats which travel by sea or float through the air, giving you some time to take in the scenary... one of the first "interesting experiences" in FFXI that I heard of, was how one import player took a trip by sea, only to be brutally murdered by a sea-monster whilst bobbing over the oceans! (ie. he lost the fight... badly) things to do... Obviously there is going out and battling monsters to level up your skills. The Battle System is real-time, with you selecting an action from a list - if you do nothing, you automatically repeat that action when your character is back to "ready". TBH, this doesn't sound too great, but it would seem that the abilities you can use must balance it out. Also, you don't have to fight alone - you can have a party of up to 6 people, and these parties can be futher linked to two other parties (giving a total of 18 people in an "alliance" - suitable for taking down the toughest bosses.) Other things to do include mastering guild jobs - with the help of crystals found when digging the empty plains (i think this is with Chocobos...), you can synthesise items, depending on your chosen skills - you can make armour, novelty items and cook food. Also, you are able to dangle a Fishing Rod into a body of water and catch a few fish to eat. Yummy fish of course (Hack Hack! I feel a little better!) There are a whole load of things I haven't mentioned of course... some good, some bad - hope this gave you a little taster Edit: and there is also this:Gameforms Hands-on of US Beta Test

Other places that may be worth a visit:
FFXI Offical US Site : https://www.playonline.com/ff11us IGN's FFXI Hands-On : https://pc.ign.com/articles/433/433164p1.html IGN Reports Costs and System Specs etc: https://pc.ign.com/articles/433/433117p1.html - Finally we now know the costs: $50 for the game, $12.95 a month (first 30 days free) $1 a month for each additional character you create (the 12.95 includes the rights to have 1 character). In theory, Tetra Master should cost $1 a month to play also, as it was the same price as additional characters in Japan. - In UK Money, assuming that $1 = £0.66 (its about that) the costs are: £8.50 a month and £0.66 for each additional character. Not far off the £7.50 and £0.75 I put on my Packaging project ^_^ - Other Currancies, i know nowt about. Search for a Currency converter on the net...

The game sounds great but it's still robbery.

$12.95 a month!? Damn...I was hoping for something less than $10. And from the looks of it....the PS2 version will be much more costly with the need for the HDD and Network Adapter (assuming the drive costs around $50 and one doesn't have an adapter yet), and, say, if the person decides to play for 3-6 months (taking into account the free 30 days) with only one character, then it would come out between [at least] $160-$200+ easily.
Robbery indeed. |

Final fantasy 11 will never be released in Europe, the sales will be the worst EVER, seeing it is online only, dont know about United States, just get a import if it ever does.

£8.50 is perhaps a little expensive... I'd like it to be around £6, then It could be easily compared to going out and buying a copy of any Popular PC Gaming Mag every Month...
I would actually pay what they're asking though. Once I Finally get Broadband though, and I may get that around Christmas time... Not that the European PC version is exactly "imminent" - but, FFXI PC Europe is 90% certain... even if hell will freeze over before a PS2 version gets here... The Sales will be the worst ever for an FF game. But it really doesn't take much - comparitivly "bad sales" for FF games are of the type that most games developers dream off. Honestly, I believe that FFXI will go on to be the biggest selling MMORPG ever made. It has a massive fan-base (no matter how much it is inclined to moan ) and many unique features and things to do - Hands-on experience show it so much better recieved than Star Wars Galaxies - Also, when it finally gets released in the US, it will have effectivly been beta tested for going on 2 years (by the Japanese in the original versions)... the ammount of MMORPGs that have lost people because of far too many bugs... Regarding "robbery" - the PS2 version is, the PC version isn't. There are so many things you can do with a PC that reaches the specs and has a decent Net Connection. As of yet - and I forsee that It'll remain so - the PS2 Hard Drive is used only by FFXI. The Network Adapter is used by other games... but I've yet to see anything remotely interesting, other than FFXI anyway. PC online > PS2 Online (well duh )

I just think the sales will be bad, and thats why Squaresoft wont release it here, but it into short terms, how many people own ps2 online in our country about 50,000 peope, not even that, then all over Europe too is about 100,000 people with ps2 online, then only people who like Final Fantasy will get it, plus the monthly charge will put be off, so my guess is it would only shift about 25,000 copies, which is not bad, acctually I dont really have a clue, but I cant see it coming to Europe let on the UK, Japanese and Amercian material, but I hope it does come, but that is my honest opinion.

This thing looks so good I wouldn't care if it really had any storyline, just to get to play an online game would be enough for me. Right now I wouldn't know who would pay the monthly fee, but I hope to get it some day and hopefully it won't fade out for a long time. Oh yeah, being able to play with others from different countries sounds great.

I was willing to pay 6 dollars a month for it, as I heard it was going to be. But 13? That's stupid. If I want to play the game for a whiole year it'll mean 206 dollars I would have spent in a single game, not to mention the cost of the hard drive. And, will it even be worth playing the game after you've finished it once? I guess by then I'll have a PC, if I ever get that game, I guess it'll be PC, not PS2.

Edit: Frozen, the very nature of the game means that you can never "finish" it. There is no opportunity to be the player who everyone looks up to - no final boss, and you're unlikely to ever be the only one to take on a single boss and survive.

I've been looking around the net for the past couple days looking for sites with FFXI info and I found a couple: https://www.ffguild.com https://www.shadow-dragons.com/index2.htm Man, I hate it when I psyche myself up months before a game is released. Especially now that it's something I am unsure how to pay for all of the stuff, do any of you guys have this problem? Well, all the classes sound interesting and I like how there's a lot of room for making your character how you want, but there's the problem I haven't heard anything on an option to choose between a left-handed or right-handed character. Then my character could really be customized to my tastes. |
