The situation is this...
Final Fantasy 1 was originally released for the NES in the US and Japan. Final Fantasy 2, 3 were released originally in Japan only. When FF4 was released in the US it was given the title of FF2 because only FF1 had been released previously there, and apparently they didn't want to 'confuse' the US market. FF5 was never orginally released in the US. They followed this up with FF6 being released under the name FF3 in the US. It was only upon the release of FF7 that things got back to normal when plans were made to reissue the old FF's. Incidentally, FF7 was the first to be released in PAL terrotries So to summarise Japanese name = USA name Final Fantasy I = Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy II = not released Final Fantasy III = not released Final Fantasy IV = Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy V = not released Final Fantasy VI = Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy VII = Final Fantasy VII Hope this clears things up... - S

FF V & VI were available in a package called Final Fantasy Anthology (I think - FF Chronicles contained IV & Chrono Cross) for PSOne. Still no sign of III though. - S

Its so confusing how they did it. They should have just released all the games in the US with the same name. It would have been easier for stupid guys like me to understand.

--- just for the hell of it, i'll point out that that Final Fantasy Adventure (Gameboy) is really "Seiken Densetsu 1" or, the game that comes before "Secret of Mana" on the SNES - its shall be rereleased on the GBA very soon, so who knows what will happen regarding its name if it gets outside Japan... Also, the Final Fantasy Legends were actually the first games in the "Sa-Ga" series... clearly, Square felt that they'd be more popular under the "Final Fantasy" brandname.

I wonder how I will be able to enjoy all the FF games? All I know is I definately won't be able to get all of them for the systems they are made for.
