Yea, this game will be awesome, I already purchased it through steam. Too bad there isnt a dang release date yet. =/ Funny how that is seeing that the game is done... This is a real sloppy release... it isnt like this is the first valve game made, at the least they should have a release date!

Just for the sake of mentioning it, the US PC Gamer gave Half-Life 2 98%, and the UK's oldest PC mag, PC Zone, gave it 97%. I believe both of those are "best ever scores". PCZ even said something like "Play it as soon as you can - games may never be this good again".

The "sloppy release" is a result of a number of things... firstly, the fact that every promise they've made so far of a release date since September 30th 2003 has been incorrect. They simply figured that if they shut up and got on with finishing the game, they'd be able to release it one day. Then there are the Valve / Vivendi court battles over Cyber Cafe rights and whatnot.

But it is actually only the second. All other games in their catalogue were mostly outsourced to other developers... Blue Shift and Opposing Force were Gearbox titles, DoD and CS were made by Mod teams and Condition Zero was handed around at least Gearbox and Raven software before it finally got released. Besides, having no fixed release date is better than having one, simply because you don't have to cut content or put out an unfinished and buggy game. Sure I want to play HL2 as soon as possible, but I'd rather play the most complete, well polished HL2 that is possible.

Edit: Forgot to add, have you played CSource now that you've preordered via Steam? Any good?

Chara are you playing CS Source then too? I have been playing it non stop...well that and ps2fantasy arcade...getting some mad trophies.

Yep, I been playing it since its beta phases, actually. To tell you the truth valve actually just gave the users that preordered the beta with a few maps. Nothing has changed ever since the last beta update so its still really buggy and you only get one player model per team. Also they still have the bug report. Really, what "final" version of the game has a bug report selection on the main menu? On galaxies there was a bug report but it was tucked away... They also left out some maps. I was itching to play assault in the source engine too...

It is still fun to play, though. its just dissapointing that this isnt exactly a final version. I would really like the fact that when you hit objects that you can move (chairs, barrels, etc.) you bounce back a bit. It is really annoying because in cs_italy there is this huge table in one room and people usually just shoot it up because the table always gets in people's way.

Not much has changed in terms of gameplay... still same old CS but in the purdy source engine. If you hated CS then you will still hate it now. Loved it then? Then you will still love it now.

I guess that's rather predictable really... but needless to say, I can bear to wait until the retail version is out. CS was never my cup of char ^^
