Game “Oscars” - best set awards?
By “sets”, I’m talking about the in-game worlds, either fictional or non-fictional - although personally I prefer recreations of actual places in the world. Some of these games do a pretty convincing job of re-creating real locations. I would like to see more games that do this.. it’s almost like getting to take a virtual vacation! What do you think ~ what are some of your favorite game settings?
Here’s my current list: Halo – best fictional world Vice City – best city Indiana Jones & The Emperor’s Tomb – best foreign cities Hitman 2 – runner up, best foreign cities The Getaway – best actual city re-creation Resident Evil Zero – most realistic environments Ghost Recon – most realistic battle fields Medal Of Honor – runner up, most realistic battle fields Okay, that’s what I’m starting with. I’ll add more later as I think of them. |

Sets? I've been playing Morrowind, and the detail and size of the areas are so great! I mean, I was waling Through Vivec to the Palace and theres a huge rock in the Sky with stairs on it. A Pillar expalins that Lord Vivec stopped the Moon before it hit the sky and is now used as a prison! And theres so much more detail and great landcpaes to describe that I cant really, its just so huge.
I may go play again later lol. |

I'm so addicted to that game I only sleep when my character sleeps and I'm starting to think that carrying a steel Dai-katana around wherever I go is a good idea. I wonder how high you can go in that game, my character is level 38 and it seems i can kill just about anything i come across. I even went to Dagoth-Ur and challenged him in his mountain, but he blew me away with one hit. I'm also living in a "doomed world that I have created" thanks to a drunken mistake by my roomie. I guess that means i can't beat the game normally. Oh well, I'll just have to go and rob some more ancestral tombs. I think morrowind should get the best set award. Mark0 you're my new hero! |

Hero lol, thanks.
Yeah I just bought a steel Dai-Katana, im only level 7 just now but my levels are advancing so quickly now than before. I'm trying to do a Shrine Sargeants Quest when you have to bring back an enchanted staff fro Mt. Kand but I cant even find Mt. Kand, lol, its so big. I'm Also gonna start The Pilgrimmage for hte Temple soon. And I just killed this group of people for this guy, made a 1000 septims easily, and her bodyguards had so much goos armour and weapons, i made about 3000 septims selling off all the armour, clothese etc. and held on to the Good Weapons. I got a Glass Staff (The Best Staff I think, expensive too) A Drawven Cross Bow (so powerful and expensive, I held onto it as its so much better than the steel) and some other rare dwarven items. I cant remeber the name of the city though, it was one of those cities that are based on those huge trees, near Morag Mar. Check it out. |

Half-Life, Black Mesa – best city (yes city. It worked liked a city even though it was a research facility. black mesa's total self contained nature was what made it such a groovy place)
Deus Ex – best "miscellaneous" cities Half-Life – most realistic environments, in terms of believeability (until Xen ruins the game for you) Unreal 2 - most realistic environments, in terms of graphical power Tribes 2 – most realistic battle fields (they were massive, rather than detailed though) Half-Life, Black Mesa- most believeable site for alien invasion Archimedean Dynasty, Aqua – best fictional world (until Aquanox was released... and i'm not big on fictional worlds anyway) System Shock Series, Citadel Station / Von Braun - best vision of "the future" (including cyberspace, psychotic computers, dodgy lift music and "the love lounge" on the recreation deck) Thief Series - best vision of a history that could have happened, but didn't. Homeworld, The Gardens of Kadesh - Best Hiding place for religous zealots. System Shock 2, "Body of The Many" - best use of squelching noises and digestive fluids in a location (and not mentioning sphincters either...) i'll stop now

That settles it. I'm renting Morrowind this weekend. I don't know how many times I've heard about how great the environments are in that game. Have you guys seen the Shaun Murray wakeboarding demo in Tony Hawk's ProSkater 4 options menu? I only recently noticed it, and I gotta say, those are the most realistic water environment effects I've ever seen (they've changed the name to wakeboarding unleashed). Has anyone else seen this yet?

Rent it? I would recommend buying it, the game is too big. I hear they are realeasing an updated version of Morrowind Soon that has the add-on packs for the PC version included, something like that. Sounds a good buy to me.
I'd like to make a Morrowind Thread but I doubt enough people would post there And all the Morrowind Threads I've seen suck. |

Well, I'm hoping that by renting it I'll at least be able to get a sense of the graphics and environments. Frankly, I'm not really into the whole RPG thing. I like realistic action, not turn-based, slow-moving stuff. If Morrowind played like, say, Halo, but still had the incredible maps and worlds, then I would have owned a copy a long time ago.

Yeah its vast, it can put you off sometimes.
But the thing is you can do whatever you want. You can kill everyone who comes near you, you can help people, you can do both, its all up to you. But the actions aint turn based, not at all, you want to fight, you draw your weapon and strike your weapon. So if thats what you meant by it playing like Halo, meaning you dont like turn based fighting, you'd be pleased. I just wiped out a part of the Commona Tong (Mafia Group) For this guy, getting a present fromthe Empire in Return, the games gettin more interesting now. |
