So, what happened ? *SPOILERS*
I played FF7 again because... well, I don't know why. I suppose I just had some nostalgia rushing to my head.
I finished through it last night, and I'm still perplexed by it's ending: Do you think that, in the end, humans were obliterated with the coming and unison of Meteor and Holy ? Or rather, do you think that the Lifestream turned over the effects of the spells, thus saving the world along with its inhabitants ? What role do you think Aeris played ? Just outta curiousity, whaddaya think ? |

I think that the human race was saved. I think Holy counteracted meteor and thus the world was saved. Also I think that because of the talks about a sequel. If the human race had been obliterated square would say that instead of denying the rumours.
I think Aeris summonded Holy. Sephiroth tried to kill her to prevent that from happening but it was too late.

Midgar was laid in ruins as we seen with Nanaki 500 years after the event. Holy w/ lifestream beat Meteor, likewise no crater and the planet wtill being there. We have no idea what exactly happened after the Sephiroth incident. Maybe if they make FF7-2, we will have those answers plus more in a brand new storyline.

I think it may be possible that something happened to the human race when they showed Nanki 50 years later. Or maybe there was just nobody around Midgar anymore. All I know is yes, the ending does seem kinda confusing.

I think the Human Race survived, but I can see how the writers would kill them all: Throughout the game, it was constantly said that Life was not the end - the death of the Human Race would be far from tragic, given that the planet could no longer be harmed, and that everyone's life-force would be recycled anyway.
However, one thing that is striking about the Holy / Meteor "Battle" is that Holy seems benevolent - The bit where Marlene looks out the window along with everyone else sees everyone wowing at the pretty lightshow - if it was after the Humans, i showed no sign of it. Midgar is an exception, but it is logical that it would be destroyed anyway - the Many Reactors Harmed the Planet, and Holy Would have percieved the whole City as expendable. Nanaki (or possibly his Son or whatever) leads his cubs to Midgar as a warning with a moral about how the planet should be treated, rather than as a monument of "ooh look, over there thousands of people died along with the rest of the Human Race. Now who want's ice cream?" PS. I'm editing the Thread's Topic to make it clear which FF game this is about.

-Hero's Version of What Happened-
"Just as my father died protecting me... I risked my life to save the Earth. Those ruins are the building blocks of a friendship that will never be forgotten. *Tells cubs story of Cloud and Sephiroth* Later in life, should an evil like that surface again, look to these ruins and be reminded of the cycle of life, and what importance there is in taking a step forward to save the Earth." I think a sequel would only be cool if it were a PREQUEL, rather, to Final Fantasy 7. Think about it... "One Winged Angel: The Chronicles of Sephiroth" And have it close, at the part where Sephiroth fought Cloud in the reactor, but add a little spice to the battle. Or... You could have a sequel, and Nanaki could be the returning character, but really old.

i always understood the point of the game to mean that
midgar and technology was bad and wrong so therefore destroyed. but humans lived on. whereas nanakai and the way his tribe lived was doing things right, in touch with the planet etc. its a very happy clappy save the trees ending type thing, at least in my opinion. love ff7 tho, the best FF i played along with FF10! |
