Have You All Seen The.......
Have you all seen The Ring. I watched it last night, I bought the movie at Wal*mart the other day. The movie was scary. It kept me at the edge of my seat till the end. I am actually easily scared, but that was the bomb. The whole movie was just... creapy. Have you watched it?

I saw it in the movies.
It was good, but I found it more creepy than scary. It didn't scary me on some parts because the movie reminds me of a game called Eternal Darkness. :p |

Man, that movie had me holding hands... I usually don't get scared easily but the one thing that really scares me is rotting faces and that is what that movie had...
After the movie was over my cellphone rang. It scared the poo out of me...

I didn't think the movie was scary, merely freaky. I tends to give you some shivers, but no real reason to "jump" or anything. The begining was pretty cool, but I didn't like then ending much, though. . . and yet you can say it was alright. I've been meaning to watch the Japanese version of this movie, since it's supposed to be much scarier/freakier than the American version. All in all, pretay good movie |

it was kind of scary... but only the videotape itself actually got me truely scared. I guess i'm a cynical person who simply doesn't like the overly predictable, and the Ring only "sprang" somthing on you near the begining... but the videotape... spooky

Since you people are now starting to talk about Ringu, I just have to say it is nowhere as scary as the American one.Theres a tiny amount of differences between the 2, but the Japanese one is not frightning in the least.Atleast thats what I observed between the 2 versions I own .

I saw like the first half hour of it at my friends B-day party. I wanted to watch the rest of it but my friend had to go home and I was getting a ride with him. I will probly rent it and watch the rest. I hate starting a movie and not finishing it.

Just a comment I wanted to make. A movie does not need to "throw something at you" or make you jump in fright for it to be scary. Too many people go to these movies and expect to jump in their seat and be startled physically... To have the movie create a knee jerk reaction in them that is merely on a reflex level...well thats just primitive fright before us as primates way back developed the part of the brain associated with imagination and were incapable of being mentally scarred.....whereas, to be startled on a deeep mental level that leaves an impression on you is a much bigger sign of masterful work on a moviemaker's part. That can last you a while as far as repeating your formula for mesmorizing audiences, whereas you can only throw skeletons on the screen so many times before the audience gets bored of it. To me the anxiety and creepiness factor and engrossing storyline is equally, if not more, important than the equivalant of dodging flaming heads in your front row seat.
So what point am I so desperately trying to make? Well I'm not saying The Ring was the most psychologically damaging movie I've seen...IN fact far from it, but I feel that is a factor of the Horror genre just as much as the stereotypical factors of it. Horror as it started out was a lot different than what in turned into when it hit the movie screen. OK blah...I am rambling...just enjoy a movie for what it is even if you dont get "scared" is probably all I should have said. _RED_ stuff

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I just found out what the other 3 sequels are called (in case anyone is interested):
1) The Spiral (Rasen) 2) Ring 0 3) Ring 2 There's a boxset that's going to be released in Japan on April 16 that carries all 4 movies. It's about 12800 Yen....so maybe around $105.00(?) US dollars.

EDIT: Oh and the DVDs are just re-mastered and includes a new interview with the author of the Ringu books, Koji Suzuki. There's also an 8-page booklet featuring the scriptwriter, Youji Takahashi. I'm not sure about any other extras though. ^^;;

Oh man, I just saw Ringu last night without seeing the American version (although I've been told the differences now) and it was probably the scariest movie i've ever seen.
What I liked about it is that it's both very clever, very scary and very engrossing which is pretty necessary for a good fright flick. The worst part is that right after I watched it the second phone line in our house rang (not in my room) and the buddy of mine that was with me said that Sadako would be smart enough to call in my room, then sure enough my phone rang. It was dead silent for a second until the "Press one if you'd like to accept the call . . . " message came on. But, my blood went completely cold for a split second there. It's kinda funny how logic can completely vanish when you let it. |
