Talking Chaos Legion

Quote:
FromIGN

From the stylish and gothic origins of Devil May Cry and the arcade trappings of numerous old-school coin-op games, Capcom delivers an unusual new action melee game called Chaos Legion.

Placed in a fantastical, gothic landscape that looks like the Umbrian hills of Italy, Chaos Legion offers gamers medieval-styled buildings crowded into a city fabulously layered with a bevy of varying textures and filled with a throng of bizarre creatures, bosses and mysterious characters that all play a part in a larger storyline.

Starring as swordsman Sieg Wahrheit, players must trail the deadly trail of of his best friend Victor Delacroix, who has mysteriously fallen into a magical darkness that threatens to destroy him and change the world forever. As Seig, players must pursue Victor before he succumbs to the wretched plague that's taken ahold of him, and in the process evolve into a master Legion warrior.

Equipped with a sword and the ability so summons magical legions, players crawl through endless streets and encounter hundreds of foul creatures, bosses and ruthless enemies as they grow in strength and knowledge. Packed with 13 levels and seven possible legion types (archer, bomber, shield, sword, power, claw and giant legion), Chaos Legion creates a combat style that blends straight up action with management and strategy to best defeat the enemies put forth against you.

The controls are straightforward. You can attack, summons, direct your summons, jump, walk, run, strafe and move the camera. The three-level demo we played showed Sieg wandering through ancient European looking streets and constantly coming under attack by a slew of spiders, two-legged dogs, and various creatively designed enemies that defy common description. Needless to say, the backgrounds, characters and enemies are all superbly designed and textured.

It's also clear that while this is a straight-up arcade-action game, there are tons of enemies that crowd he screen at once, creating a need for legion assistance and management. After each boss you fight, another legion becomes available for you to use. Using buttons to select defend or attack -- and by keeping an eye on the life and soul meters -- players send legions off to aggressively attack enemies, or to hang back and defend those that strike at you.

Chaos Legion looks to reveal more intricacies and hopefully more storyline and gameplay depth when we get a playable demo in the near future. It's a single-player game for PS2 that should ship in July. Stick around for more soon.

Yeah Capcom is truly an amazing game developer, but I'm still upset with them going Gamecube exclusive on all those Resident Evil titles. Well...of course, we got Devil May Cry.

_RED_ stuff
