Final Fantasy/Yoshitaka Amano Art Box Set- "The Sky"
I don't think anyone posted about this before, so I just thought I'd share this information to some hardcore FF fans. Some of you may know and some may not, since this news is pretty old.
In December 2002, Squaresoft released a rare and limited edition box set of all of Yoshitaka Amano's drawings/sketches he did for the FF series (Amano-sensei is a popular mangaka/artist in Japan known for his works like the FF series, Vampire Hunter D, "The Sandman" etc.). There are three books total: I, II, III and has all his drawings/sketches from FFI all the way to FFX. Also included is a book with interviews, biography, photos of him and his NY apt./studio, promotional ads for the FF games (and some are never-seen before). There's a double-sided flipbook featuring moogles bouncing on one side and a woman disappearing into a "womb" on the other. There's a pencil board (shitajiki) featuring a woman character from FFI (I believe). And finally, there's 2 large postcards of two characters from FFI. Here's a pic: https://store6.yimg.com/I/animebooks-com_1727_67229275 This box set is incredibly heavy. 7 kg which is about 15 lbs. There's over 704 pages and the art is gorgeous. Cost: $300 This is a definite must-buy for die hard fans or major collectors, but the price is steep.

*sniffle* the price tag is sure steep... i'll have to make do with the art cards in Origins and the various Amano stuff on some of the game cds (my eyes are sure gonna hurt )

Well, by "etc." I just meant like other works for anime (like Angel's Egg and Gatchaman), manga, some games other than FF (like El Dorado's Gate (Capcom) and Kartia (Atlas)). He's mostly famous for his FF and Vampire Hunter D works though.

Whoa I never seen that before. You know when you look at Amano's you think anybody could do it, it is just that Maya!!! It's like you don't really need to draw good, you just have to make it better on the computer.

Sorry for straying off the topic, but I just don't hearing people insult artists who uses the traditional style than using computers.

Whoa Whoa wait, I though that he was a maker of the final fantasy series, like the characters in the games.
I didn't say draw them on the computer, I meant that if he was a final fantasy maker, that when he finishes drawing them, he makes it into a character in final fantasy. Sorry if it meant something else to you, I wasn't insulting anyone. Here's what I really meant to say. "If he draws like that, anybody can draw that good if they got help, or is just born with the skill like he was. Then if we had that skill it would be easier to place it to Maya to make a Real-Time Rpg person. And that it would look real, bacause of the good job that he did by drawing it, because if you got a good rough draft, you can make an awesome final draft *if he placed that person in final fantasy*" Sorry for the confusion, I type to fast and not think. |

Thats probably an indication of where his input ends... (though his art is of course very, very good!)

Like the_artist said, Amano-sensei just does the drawings in his style and in the games, it's much more "detailed" and "life-like" because the character designer takes care of that. Again, I apologize...I should try to read posts more carefully next time.
