Wait...Spirited Away is coming to theaters or to DVD? I heard that it's going to be released on DVD/VHS on April 4....it's already been shown in independent theaters.
This movie is fantastic. I was fortunate enough to see it and it's simply terrific. Much better than Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime), IMO. The characters are much more likeable, the main character, Chihiro/Sen, is just your typical normal girl but like all main characters she has that strong personality and she's very intelligent. All the characters are very typical Studio Ghibli and in this film, they're magical, unique, and cute. The fantasy world is beautiful and very creative (especially the bath house for the Gods ). I don't want to spoil anything for anyone; this is a film that everyone has to see...if you enjoyed Princess Mononoke, you'll enjoy Spirited Away even more.

Like trunks, I've heard that it's supposed to come out in theaters this friday.
I think it looks okay, but I think I'm probably going to wait until it comes out on DVD/VHS... I liked Princess Mononoké a lot, but this one seems a little bit less interesting, according to what I have seen of it ( trailer ). |

Spirited Away is about this young girl, Chihiro, who is moving to a new town/home along with her parents. As they are trying to search for their new place, they take a wrong path down the road and end up at the opening of a long tunnel. All 3 go in (Chihiro being quite reluctant, trying to get her parents to turn back) and they discover a small deserted village, with open markets selling food. Chihiro's parents begin eating the food set out and she wanders away and finds a large building and a boy telling her to turn back. As she goes back to her parents, spirits begin to come out and wander the area and she finds her parents turned to pigs. Now, she must try to save her parents and this requires her going into that large building she found (which is a bath house for the Gods) and working there and so on. My summary may be terrible, but the film is great.

I plan on going to see it today. It looks like a good movie. The animation is beautiful looking and the story seems ok. Ebert said it was a master piece. Though I might not make it. I have wanted to go see Gods and Generals since it came out and have not made it yet.

Ah, you guys are right. I just saw the trailer for Spirited Away on TV. Thanks for letting me know. I didn't know it's going to be shown nationwide...this is great! I hope everyone goes and sees it! Enjoy minna-san!
EDIT: BTW, congratulations to Spirited Away for winning Best Animated Film in the Oscars. EDIT 2: I also just found out that this movie was in theaters a while back, but Disney decided to bring it back to theaters on March 28. I don't know why though.

Yes, it first came to theaters on September 20, 2002.
But like you, I don't know why it was re-released yesterday... ... to benefit from the Oscar winning ? |

They probably re-released it because a lot of people had never heard of the movie before the oscars (I being one of them). It's a good move.

Qjij is back, I was kinda worried that I might not get to talk to you because you went away for a long time almost as soon as I got here you seem like an interesting person. ANyway, I ahd heard about it before the OScars like I mentioned from somebody at school and they told me where to find the trailer, I only heard about the release of the movie for this past Firday and I was disappointed that I didn't hear anything about the release when expected. Too bad I might have to wait for it to come out on DVD because I just saw Cradle 2 the Grave a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I've been looking forward to this movie for a long ass time, and considering my olocation, I can't really anjoy seeing it on the big screen. But I have heard soo many great things about it, with its awards in Japan, and America, and I finnaly saw a preview of it on TV a few days ago on NBC, which suprized the hell out of me. My mom even saw the preview, and not being a fan of anime, she thought it looked really good. I loved Mononoke Hime, and after what that movie got, I'm expecting even better things to come from this one. So in April, I guess I'll be buying it, along with Mononoke Hime, on DVD, and Ghost In The Shell, on DVD, two movies which I have been trying to get for a long time but haven't got around to it. Because the VHS versions of em just aren't as good.

I saw Ghost in the Shell on a movie channel and I would love to get the DVD along with this movie. Also, it won't be location that there's a problem with it's the fact my family hardly ever goes to the movies.
