Strange.. but true.. Some facts about PS2

I came across these strange and unusual facts about PS2 so I thought I'd share them with you. If anyone else has any then please share them!

It would take 11 trillion, 858 billion, 194 million, 779,628 PS2's to cover the surface of Jupiter.

The PS2 squeezes 10.5million transistors into just 4.72 litres of space - the engine capacity of a 1976 Jaguar XJ6.

33 million PS2's produced (and counting) means there are enough for every second person in the UK to own one. However there are only 2.5 million PS2's in the UK at the moment - but it's still enough to lay a line of PS2's from London to Geneva (446 miles!).

PS2 is not worth it's weight in gold, as it clocks in at £2.70 per ounce compared to £200 per ounce for gold. A solid gold PS2 would cost a whopping £14,800 - and it would smell funny!

TOCA Race Driver contains over 500,000 lines of code. If it were to be printed in a magazine as a sentence, it would be 43.5 miles long.

If you could modify a PS2 and attach a wheel to the CD drive, it could reach 84 mph. It spins at 6,000rpm (at max 24x mode) - the same as a 1.8 litre Ford Mondeo at peak power. Even running flat out it would take 503 years for the PS2 to reach Jupiter, assuming the planet was at it's closest point to Earth, and a bloody long power lead.

Since March 4th 2000, SONY has moved 84,000 tonnes of PS2 to various parts of the world. This is almost exactly the same weight as the Hiroshima Rihga Royal Hotel in Japan!

Umm, that's it.

haha, these are the most interesting... never would've thought the 2nd one would be possible.

It's amazing how there are 10.5 million transistors because there were only 40 transistors in the Odyssey, the first home console (I believe).

Here are a few more, from a SCEA press release. I really don't get the point of many of them, but oh well!

More Playstation 2 software titles have been sold (51.6 million) than real Christmas trees bought by Americans each year (37.1 million).

Worldwide Playstation software shipments is more than double (869 million) the amount of cans of chicken noodle soup sold annually in the United States (350 million).

There are twice as many Playstation 2 games available (400) than there are different types of Barbie Dolls (200).

The number of Playstation hardware units sold life-to-date in North America (33 million) is more than double the number of times the average person blinks in one year (13,140,000).

Ok, this is a cooler one. I don't remember If I saw this posted in the forums, but here it comes.

The Playstation 2's box design seems not too original if we give a look at a prototype built by Atari in the first Eighties, known as the Atari Falcon Microbox. I thought this was an hoax, but I could find many good Atari sources with details of the PC/console.

Take a look.

And here's a description

Quote:
The MicroBox was ALMOST released. It was to be the replacement for the Atari Falcon computer. Enhancements were to include an all new case design and a true 32-bit bus with (3) 32-bit expansion slots. There were plans to make it upgradeable to the Motorola 68040 processor.
