Qore

Anyone check out SONY's new thing "Qore" on the PSN?

It works like a magazine subscription where you can pick and choose between months or buy an annual subscription. And inside theres exclusive videos and content along with, and varying each issue, exclusive demos, themes, full games, and beta invites. Its all "fully interactive," meaning you can pick which things you want to look at and which not to via a menu, which is a very pretty package I think.

The major grip I've heard so far on this is the ads. "Why are we paying for something that has ads in it?" I don't mind it much especially when its a trailer for a new game, but in this one theres an ad for Burger King. That in my opinion holds no ground to be there.

This issue has the SOCOM Beta invite. Its not up yet, but its suppose to be guaranteed access with the purchase of Qore. That alone is probably worth the $2.99 that the issue costs for most people.

I am going to admit now that I have not read all of your message. I did read the part where you asked if we are getting it. I am in the process of getting it now. My internet is really slow for now so it will take overnight yet to finish it.

With that said I didn't read the rest of your comment because I basically don't want any spoilers. I want to experience this first hand without anyone else's opinions or ideas influencing my opinion.

What I will say is this, I do believe that the snap judgments we are seeing online about this affecting our Free PSN are just rediculus. The exclusive content they are refering too will be demos or add ons that Sony can't release through the store. Things like Alpha demos or demos that are not able to be passed through the regular streams that is Sony will make it into this "magazine". I think the biggest complainers are those that missed out on the big Magazine era of the early - mid 90's. Even the late 90's saw DVD's/CD's with Demos and special extra content on them. Given to you free with your magazine purchase. People have this confused with paying for demos.

As well with all the advertising, look in a magazine, there are a large number of advertisements in magazines and you don't see people complain that they are paying for advertisements in those. Put it this way, $3 is a pretty cheep magazine, if your having a hard time justifying the purchase.

I will give my hands on impressions tomorrow or whenever I get a chance to see it for myself.

OK, I was able to check it out and all I can say is WOW!.

I am very pleased to say that at $2.99 this is a steal. First of all to address the ads. We see 4 ads, that average about 15 seconds in length. 3 out of the 4 I saw were game related and the 4th was for Burger King. Although the burger king add was about 10 seconds and had no speech attached. In responce to the question "why do we pay for it if it has adds?", well you yourself said its an online magazine. Find me a magazine that doesn't contain adds. How many of those do you get for free? Better still, how many of them are $2.99 For the most part its 15 seconds of your time. I don't see it as an issue or an annoyance.

Whats cool about these adds is that they are actually called "sponsors", and after the 15 second ad you can hit the square button and actually get an extended version of the ad. The MGS4 extra content was incredible. Loved the videos from the sponsors.

The information given for Socom makes me want this game in the worst way. The way they talked about the game and what they are trying to accomplish I must say that I am incredibly excited.

In case people reading this didn't know, if you buy the year subscription you get Call all Cars for free. Its a $9.99 game.

My only complaint for Qore is that it was a bit short. Only 4 games were discussed. There were lots of great videos in those 4 games though and the sponsor videos were great too. There is also a hidden game (although dumb) if you hit L2. I recommend this to everyone.

Those aren't my personal feelings, I was only illustrating a point that I got from the general community. I actually liked the game ads, just the BK one got to me. I have a Nintendo Power subscription and never have I seen any ads for anything other than games and game related things. Sponsors they may be, I don't think BK has any precedence advertising in my game "magazine".

The content they deliver was quite good on those games. I didn't really look into the SOCOM stuff mostly because its never really been my cup of tea, but everything else was very neat to see.

Now that I think about it again, the other thing that bugged me was the definite lack of "HD". They had advertised it as being full HD and all that jazz, but you can very much see pixleization on every bit of footage they had in there except the "host" videos (can't remember her name). I can forgive this though because if it was entirely full HD the file size would have been much larger.

And there is actually 5 games discussed. You might have missed it too because of the fire in the bottom left corner, but there is an arrow there allowing you to scroll down to see stuff on "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed", "Whats Hot" which is the Hulk trailer, and the download center.

But yeah, I think SONY delivered what they said they were on this. I don't know if I'll end up going for a year subscription, but I'll probably pick up some more issues in the future, depending on the content.

Sorry, didn't mean for it to sound like an attack at you, wasn't my intention. I hear you about the BK advertisement. At least it was only 10 seconds and didn't have any sound behind it. I don't think its a terrible problem though, I did see an add for Viagra in Gamepro one time. That was just wrong.

Most of the the videos were in HD, I can understand if some of the game play video wasn't though. Not all the games are in their finished state. Isn't the Clank game only PSP? I could understand that not being HD if that was the case. However all the rest of the videos were HD, like the interviews and such.

Correct me if I am wrong but are these not the games listed on Qore?

Socom
Soul Calibur iV
Secret Agent Clank
Star Wars

Then when you click on Whats Hot? it shows the movie trailor for Hulk.
And then the download center.

Thats only 4 games since Whats Hot is a movie.

I am pretty sure I will get a year subscription on this starting next month, it definitely delivered on what they set out to do.

And Afro Samurai. It was paired in with the Soul Calibur one.

So I guess I was the only one who missed the arrow in the bottom on the first look through? Haha.
