Uniforms At School!
Well down here we have to wear Uniforms at school, not like ya'll, getting to wear what ya'll want.
Kids in elementrary, middle, and high schools have to wear uniforms. What Types. Well, red, white, and blue shirts. (uniform shirts) And only Khaki, or navy blue pants. (uniform pants) And my school has to make us wear certain things. 8th graders: white shirt 7th graders: blue shirt 6th graders: red shirt 5th graders: I don't know Well what do you think, should they have uniforms in school. They said regular clothes distract people, and people get teased for wearing them. Well I am getting teased, and I am wearing uniforms. And the regular clothes we used to wear, didn't have words on it. Well what do you think, do they need to take that out of schools, and not make everyone around the world wear them? |

In the UK, the majority of schools have to wear uniform. It sucks because it lacks indivuality (or so our French teacher tells us to write in our essays on school ).
But seriously, they are a bit bland. it's all "Navy Blazers, White Shirts/Blouses, Grey Trousers/Weird Tartan thingy Kilt-skirt" at my school. The most jewelery people are allowed is a watch (though i suppose thats sensible safety wise). I suppose it works, even if it seems they haven't made any design changes since the school was founded (1588 - , well ok girls have only been going for 10 years or somthing...) Gets the thumbs down from me, but it does have its benefits I suppose...

*rolls eyes* I was forced into a Catholic school, son (we were force fed the teachings of Cathol... I mean christ..). We wore some of the dorkiest friggin uniforms you'd ever want to see. But y'know what? Now that I've matured, I think it's a good idea.
Part of the reason why there's so many people goin after kids in the way you're seeing on the news is because they're being oversexualized commercially. Hell, just yesterday I saw a girl on a commercial for Macy's or something that couldn't have been over 12, wearing a halter top and hip huggers. Fasion conciousness shouldn't begin that early, I think. At the very least not at school. Uniforms should be UNIFORMS, though.. not different skirts or pants because of what grade you're in. And if everyone wore a bloody uniform they couldn't make fun, because they would be wearing one too. Simple as that. So, I'm for uniforms. *shrugs* You may now commence with the throwing of vegitables.

I went to a Catholic school for 7 years, even though I wasn't religious. I guess you could say it was hell for me, but that is another topic. We didn't have to have uniforms, but EVERY year, they brought it to the school board. At least they had a brain and said no.
Uniforms are not needed. People dress the way they do to show their individuality. You take that away, you take their creativity and other things. Even if they did look half-way decent, I would like to wear the clothes I wear because I can. I'm no fashion expert, my friends can vouch for that, but at least I decide what clothes go on my back.

Anyway, I haven't worn a school uniform since 1991 when I left school (well, except maybe for fun every once in a while!). I totally agree with the idea of a school uniform. When I was at school we had P.E class (Phys. Ed, Gym Class, whatever you call it) and if you weren't wearing the likes of Nikes, Adidas or Reebok the other kids would make fun of you. Now this was just for P.E.... Imagine what it would be like for the kids with poorer parents who couldn't afford all the expensive named brands if there was no uniform.... Young kids can be very cruel... If everyone is wearing the same gear, then how can anyone make fun or bully other students for what they wear? Exactly, they can't. Whilst it doesn't prevent bullying, it at least takes away one excuse for the bullies and if that saves one kid from having an unhappy school life then I say 'Hell Yeah to Uniforms!' - S

I went to a private school during my high school days and public during elemntry and JR high, I think wearing uniforms helped me alot, Alot of girls and some guys care about what they look like, and what they wear, the reason for uniforms is so that nobody is different, and you dont worry about the clothes, which is really good, helps you learn. So I think it helps alot and should be inforced in schools.

While I did wear uniforms (blue cardigan with white polo shirt and navy blue khaki pants) in a Catholic school for Jr. High, I really didn't care about it that much. The main reason is much like what TrikTopz said: no need to worry about what you got to wear the next day, which was really a load off my mind.
But it did have one disadvantage: limiting the amount of "regular" clothes I had in possession. So now that I'm heading to a public High School, I really have to start buying new clothes. It looks like I'll actually miss wearing a uniform! |

Yes!!
Yes We Should Wear Uniforums As It Looks Neat And Tidy And Represnts Ure School And In SCHOOL Not Everyone IS Rich And Can Own Different Cloths. So People Who Cant Afford Many Cloths Would Have To Wear The Same Cloths Over And Over Again And This CRUEL World Looks At Them In Not A Good Manner. So Uniforms Brings Equality Among Fellow Students!.! Which Happens To be The Best THing in School...

Equality is not good anywhere and in any case. I mean: some girls in some schools are forced to wear skirts because the uniform rule says they have to, but what if a girl doesn't like to wear a skirt at all? What if she hates this rule and she feels embarassed wearing a skirt? Let's face the reality: she'll have difficulties and she'll end hating going to school for this reason, which is terribly stupid IMO. I say: let's anyone wear what they want. It's a lot better.

Hylas the girls dont have to wear skirts , well thats the way it is at my school, the girls have a choice whether to wear kacki pants or shorts or the skirts, whch eliminates your hypothesis about hating school cause of skirts

Some schools don't let you choose much about which clothes to wear. And apart from the skirts thing (that was only an example), I say that school is a quite bad experience for some people, also without adding to it the uniforms problem. Everyone has a certain specific personality and should be free to express himself also with the way of dressing. Some people feel better if they have the opportunity to be different from others.
Showing your uniqueness doesn't mean you're not equal to others, it means you have the right to be different and to show others you're not an anonymous clone among the others. This can sound stupid, but having a personal style is a good way to start, at least for some people. Equality has to be expressed in other ways, not thanks to school uniforms. |
