America the Beautiful or America the Iron Fist of the West?
What is America to you??
An example of Western wealth who search for nothing but peace or the powerhouse who endlessly search for Bin Laden and company. I'm sure at least one of you fellas is American and may have noticed a subtle change in how things operate in your respective country... Please write back before they lock this thread because it should be in the geo-political forum... |

The British Empire was fairly obnoxious and arrogant at one point too. You have to look at both sides of the coin my friend - having a biased opinion is as useless as having no opinion. - S

Back on topic: I think having a biased opinion at least is better for you than having no opinions at all. Americans are maybe arrogant and it can be bothering at times, but they're not the only ones. Germans are arrogant as well (I'm German and I can say that) and British people too. And what about French people? Some of them can't stand any critics about their country. I think the problem of America is that it controls everything, or nearly everything at the moment and other countries are not able to face this. They accept America's arrogance without being able to move a finger. It's a sort of colonization after all, and every kind of colonization brings problems of this nature. |

Who has America "stepped on"? How is it an "arrogant power hungry nation"? Hurling generalities doesn't really lend itself well to intelligent debate. If you want anybody to take your views seriously, you might want to try being more specific. |

I'm not gonna go into an in-depth rant about this... subject. I'm just gonna say a couple of things.
1) If America were truly the power-mongering nation that dumbasses like RichHo make it out to be, a WHOLE LOT MORE people would be saluting the Stars and Stripes. 2) If America were truly "all about control" then there would be no or at the very least far fewer places in the country where English is the least spoken language. (Does London have a "Chinatown"?) 3) America is chasing "Bin Laden and company" because he is a monster. As is anyone who follows him. We are chasing them because they seek to kill innocent civillians from our country. We are chasing them because THEY PISSED US THE HELL OFF. If any European country had lost more than maybe a hundred citizens in the 9/11 attack then we would be recieving more support too. 4) America's just a country. With it's own advantages and problems, it's own arrogance (good point, Hylas.. and I've NEVER met anyone more arrogant than a French person. Sorry.), and it's own good AND bad points. It is not a stereotypical country because there is nothing to stereotype. There are SO MANY different people in this country it would be impossible to label it as such. Non-americans who are somehow jealous of our way of life just find it convenient to say "America is evil" rather than getting off thier OWN asses and trying to help themselves. Edit: *falls over laughing* I defer my argument to Kabuki. Great one, man.
