my new spec is

athlon 1600xp (about 1.4ghz)
256mb ddr ram
40gb hd
geforce4 mx 64mb

and that tis it. nothing too exciting but unreal 2003 looks pretty and runs nicely as does no one lives forever 2.

but i really need a new soundcard.

Anyways... were both kind of right here ^_^ - the nforce has only got as far as a GF4 MX being integrated , but the leadtek one here comes with a 64mb Ti4200, at about £165 (not sure how many dollars or whatever), which is kinda good...

But no red chipset. and I have no idea why I spelt red with a capital ^_^ - I do stupid capitalisations in all my writing (which usually brings me down a grade or two...)

and the mobo= niice...kinda useless for me tho coz i want a Ti4600...and 165 pounds is about 200 bucks.

So I guess I shouldn't mention it running at something like 70fps, plus combined with a 512kb Broadband connection makes for some hellaciously fun on-line deathmatches!!!

What UT name do you go by Artist when playing on-line? Mine, rather predictably, is Spank-A-Thon...

I think i'd have trouble agreeing with you there.
The price of the average Pentium 4 is... ludricrous.
Athlon XP 2600+ = £270
P4 2.60 = £370
(£100 is a lot of money)
The only benefit with them, is that they've released higher speeds: Athlons are up to 2.13Ghz (or as they say, the same speed as a 2.6Ghz P4) and P4s go up to 2.8Ghz. Which cost just under £500, so who frankly cares about them. (Intel Motherboards are expensive as well.) But the Athlon is a better processor if they can get it at the same speed from a lower speed surely?
