If they made it a 2-d game they could fit a lot more on that one disc as it is. A 3-d game asks a lot more of the graphics engine than 2-d. I think nowadays 2-d fighting games all look outdated and old school and the only reason for developers to chose a 2-d fighting setting is to do just that to try to capter that old school arcade feel( you know playing the original streetfighter 2 back in the late eighties early '90's).
Hell, I even think I give my old super nintendo a go after this
