Can anyone explain this to me?
Hi, I know this will seem like somewhat of a waste of a thread (and I promise it won't happen again!) but I have no other idea on how I can get the answer to my query.
What does the phrase 'everything is gravy' mean, and how does it originate? It's definitely not a Liverpudlian expression, however I do assume that it means somethingl like 'everything is good'. I'm just wondering how 'gravy' relates to 'good'. Can anyone shed any light for me? Thanks in advance my multi-national friends! - S

Your post reminded me of this song by Jaheim called 'Fabulous', here's some of the lyrics:
Every man she ever loved only want to crush Charge that to the game But it’s all gravy, hey baby Shots get popped, the cops shut down the party Jeans sag low, blow smoke out of Dutches I guess it means all that is irrelevant or that all that will come to pass and we won't have to worry about it in the long run. |

Hmmmm...
Romeo (Of So Solid Crew fame) release a song called 'It's all Gravy' with Christina Milian.
Ok I just searched the lyrics here are thebits that mention gravy.... maybe they'll shine some light on the subject..... [Chorus:] Remember when we used to say, aint always gonna be this way from lemonade to alize, its all gravy, baby. Remember when we used to say, aint always gonna be this way from lemonade to alize, its all gravy, baby... [Chorus] Baby, baby, Boy you told me not to worry 'cause it's gonna be all gravy, Boy you told me not to worry 'cause it's gonna be all gravy baby [Chorus x 2] The more money you make, the more money you make, its all gravy, the more money you make, the more money you make, now its all gravy baby. I dunno! It makes it seem like it means 'ok'. 'It's all gravy' like 'It's ok' Piggle x x x x

Ever seen 'Conspiracy Theory' with Mel Gibson ( ) and Julia Roberts? Mel says it a lot in that movie.
I think it originated from the fifties.... teen slang said like, "Oh! That's just gravy!" then modified for modern times to "it's all gravy" or whatnot. I dunno... I'm sick and blathering just because I've got the time. |
