Death Note - Any Good?
Sadly, I don't watch animes anymore...but I'm trying to get back into the habit. I want to see something fresh and I heard about Death Note. A lot of people consider this anime a "masterpiece" and a live-action film was produced, so it must be good...but I wanted to get some opinions from people here.
Have you seen it? If so, is it as good as people say? Does the story seem like it would get repetitive quickly or does it move along? Any other information would be useful. Thanks in advance.

Havent watched more than three or four episodes, so I can't say if it gets repetitive after more of it. It seems good to me. Don't know if it's a masterpiece, but seems ok. I'm going to watch more and then I can express more accurate opinion.

I haven't seen all of the episodes for this, but I have read the manga. Actually, I'm not even sure if all the episodes are out already. They might be; I'm not too sure.
Anyway, have you guys read the manga? You might want to check it out first because, while the anime does seem to follow close script of the manga, I still think the manga has a little more depth in it. At least, for as far as I have seen, but that might change in the later episodes. From what I have seen, though, this anime is pretty good. The characters and the plot are both very well developed, and the animation in and of itself is well done and goes great with the whole atmosphere of the story. The seiyuu are also good. Lately, I've been annoyed by a lot of the VAs because they have some really odd voices that don't really seem to suit the characters, but the VAs in this anime are actually all very good. And the music score (especially the opening sequence) and OP are also another plus. I dunno. Overall, I'd recommed you check it out. The initial setup of it is great, with some very solid characters and interesting plotline, that, despite the supernatural character (which I think is a good thing, btw), it makes good sense. You know--it's not all bizarre and gooky; the plotline actually makes sense, despite its genre. From what I've seen, I'd recommend it being checked out. |

Thanks Mena for the review. I haven't read the manga (I'm arrogant, I refuse to check out the English-translated stuff ) so I only know the gist of the storyline but not really anything in-depth. It was actually the supernatural and the whole cat-and-mouse chase element that made me interested in this series. I'll try to see if I can grab a copy of the anime. Thanks again!

I have been looking at this on adult swim though, and it is interesting. Although I didn't pay much attention to it (because I didn't plan on watching it at 1st.), the 2nd episode is my favorite so far. The conversation between Light and L was very intriguing and kind of hooked me for a second. With that being said, I'm also wondering if this will become repetitive. So far it just seems like the story is going to be just about a boy and a book and killing. And that seems like it'll get boring very quick. I'm quick to give up on a series if it gets too boring. (Especially if there's no action.)

An update.
If you read the manga, DO NOT watch the anime. Seriously, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Atleast that's how I feel about it now. The first half of the series is really good, but seeing how I did not read the first half, I didn't do any comparisons. Spoiler: show Spoiler: show That's not what I got at all in the anime. One major reason that I don't really care for Death Note anymore, or rather the second half of Death Note is because there was just way too much that was not shown from the manga. Majority of the times I normally wouldn't mind this because it's to be expected on Cartoon Network, but the things that weren't shown has nothing to do with being edited. (I highly doubt that Adult Swim did any real editing in the first place.) It was more like important bits that weren't shown. Spoiler: show Just some of the stuff that was not shown. The way it is in the anime is that they already know, and they leave you wondering how did they find out this information in the first place. It's probably nothing major to other people, but I just don't like that type of stuff.

If you think you'd be interested in the TV series, don't even look at posters for the live action movie...
