PS3 - TV or Game Problem?
I'm a bit embarassed having to ask for help on something that may be very stupid but I need to know:
While playing "Skate" on my PS3, I noticed that the game's text/font is incredibly tiny. When I turned the subtitles on, I could hardly read any of the text. I have changed the PS3's aspect ratio to 4:3 hoping this would help but I hardly noticed any changes. I don't have an HDTV but one of those really really old 13" TV/VCR combos (yes, I'm very embarassed to admit that). So is the problem the game or is it my TV? I read that the PS3 was pretty much built for HDTVs but I don't have the money right now to get one and would be disappointed if I'm unable to play the current and future games just because of this reason. But if the TV is the reason, I'm going to have to come up with a solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

From what I heard the tiny text issues isn't because of your tv or even the PS3. Some developers don't test out their games a lot on SDTV's and only test extensively on HDTV's. So usually this makes minor issues like very small text on SDTV's coming through.
Dead Rising on the 360 was the same way, it was developed mostly on HDTV's and not on the other, so the text in the game even on my 27 inch SDTV is very hard to read. So it's kind of an issue us SDTV owners have to deal with. This issue doesn't pop up much though since most developers also keep SDTV set ups in mind. So keep in mind that I'm not 100% sure it's the problem but it's the most plausible.

Thanks for replying Beretta. It seems I'm going to have to upgrade to an HD or something since I just got back from renting "Heavenly Sword" and "Folklore" and found the font is tiny as well. I expected something like this from a few games but after renting 3 games and finding the same problem, I'm a bit pissed that some developers seem to expect all next-gen console owners to own an HD. Really disappointing.
I guess I'll have to deal with it for the time being until I get enough cash but I would still like to read the text of the games I'm playing nonetheless.

Although by 2009 that big signal change will happen, making HDTV's the prominent television signal, making SDTV's obsolete. So it probably is better to save up for an HDTV. Since I bet by 2009 they'll be much cheaper since they do get cheaper every year.

LOL, I know, a bigger SDTV would be helpful but we only have 2: one of them is my dad's bedroom and the other one is in the guest room. I would take the one in the guest room but I don't have much space in my room for that TV. And I do not want to bring the PS3 up there. So yeah...
I guess I will just have to play the games to the best of my ability (even through headache-inducing microscopic font) and save up for an HD.

Wow, Meryl, so you wanted a ps3 so bad that was more important than the tv, lol, kudos for true devotion :p. Ive had my 35 inch jvc since my short lived N64 days (1996), and its still a beautiful set. Good luck, i know that dragonsphere was facing a similar situation, im just having fun playing ps2, nice to be back in consoles. Enjoying Shadowhearts Convenant very much atm...
