He can't be a clone, because in MGS Liquid says Snake and himself were the only embryos kept alive, the rest were 'thrown out'. Not to mention Solidus is much older than Liquid and Snake, his age fits perfectly to the time when he was concieved, to that special night. And Solidus looks more like Big Boss than Solid and Liquid do themselves.
