party selection in FFI?

I recently started playing this game again because I just bought FF Origins. I was wondering if anyone else plays this game what characters did you use in your party. I always seem to use a warrior, redmage, monk, and a white mage. I think Origins is very well done I haven't checked out FFII yet but I love the 16 bit upgrade that FFI got.

I don't have the game, yet, but when I do find it I'll have three fighters in my party and a white mage. I've heard about it from a friend and I hear thay've got the best physical attack strength and that's what I always go for, unless the character's strength lies in using magic.

I just used the default of Warrior/Thief/White Mage/Black Mage for the game. But I haven't figured out quite yet how to get them to advance to the next stage, like from Warrior---> Knight. Anyone know?

Azuma_Ninja Apr 29th, 2003 12:19 PM

DragonSphere my bro knows a lot about this game and I asked him the same thing last night (how to get the characters to advance). He said it's a quest somewhere in the game but from the point I'm at in the game he says I have a long ways to go. If you tell me where you are in the game I can ask my brother how close you are to advancing.

That's a pretty cool idea man. I was thinking yesterday while playing the game what it would be like to have more than one warrrior for example. I like the variety though my monk is doing more damage bare handed than my fighter with a mithril sword right now:shock: I love the red mage too. They have good physical attacks plus they can use both black and white magic. Your going to have to tell me how your party works out though.

I would definitley have to have a white mage... i havent got FF origins but the 16-bit upgrade sounds hopeful to me...;)

I think I'm still pretty early....

Spoiler: show
Just got the Mystic Key, and had the dwarves blow up that little inlet so the ship can cross through and enter new areas.

I'm a little farther than you DragonSphere. I'll ask my brother tonight how far we have to go. Hopefully I'll see him before I go to work.

3 partys I'll consider:
Black Mage, Fighter, Thief, Red Mage - aka. "The 8-bit Theatre Party"

Fighter, Monk, Black Mage, White Mage - aka. "the one i'll probably use"

White Mage, White Mage, White Mage, White Mage - aka. "the what the hell was I thinking party"

They get rid of White Mage? That sucks, I was hoping they'd get rid of the Red Mage. There's a walkthrough on GameFAQs for having a party of all white mages and one of having a party of nothing but fighters.

I read a startegy guide on FFI and here's some help for those wondering about the class upgrade:
Spoiler: show
After you light the Earth crystal you can go straight to getting the airship and then getting Bahamut to upgrade your classes. After you light the first one you have to go to a place that's near a crescent lake using the ship you got from the pirate. If you walk past the space between the black and white magic shops of the town and keep walking you'll see a group of people with red robes and one of them gives you a canoe, which allows you to go on the rivers. The river you want is the first one just north of the village. If you go down there, I don't remember the exact directions, you will find a cave which is called the ice cave.

After you go through it and defeat the boss there's a chest where you fought him which holds a 'floater' which allows you to get to the desert south of the village near the crescent lake, took me a while to figure out exactly how. But you have to go on the river south of the village, near the desert and then go left onto land using ther floater in the desert. The you have to find this place called 'The Castle fo Ordeals'. It's in a secluded area and you can go a long way using the airship to land or you can go a shorter way using the boat and the canoe. After you pass the castle you will get an item called the rats tail(but I think the game just calls it a tail)

Then there's a bunch of islands which show white dots on the map(hold whatever button cancel is and hit select) Try everyone of them until you find one that takes you to Bahamut and give him the tail and he will upgrade your classes.

Well, I hope that helps. Oh, the whole spoiler is my shortened version of Chzn8r's guide of that part on GameFAQs.

well... Black Mage only wanted her in the party because he fancied her... Fighter wanted Red Mage because he uses swords (hence Fighter is a total meathead) and Thief actually felt that Red Mage would be the most useful, as he could do both magics and fight.... yeah 8-Bit Theatre is a lil' Freaky ^_^

Rather predictably, the Light Warriors are therefore saved by White Mage and Monk on just about every occasion.

Fighter's idiocy is known from the start. He's my favorite character next to White Mage because of his obssesion with swords. My favorite scenes are the ones where White Mage whacks Black Mage with a hammer. I've only got up to about page 28 when I found out the guy already had over 200 pages finished.

hehe yeah.... I personally had a load of free time so I actually looked at all of them... i can't exactly recommend that unless you have a lot of extra time and a much better modem than my own

DragonSphere May 7th, 2003 08:50 PM

I pretty much stopped reading it after strip 64.:dozey: Far too many to catch up now...
