That's no surprise considering all the new additional features and bonuses. Now all I have to do is find the game...

Ha, apparently this FPS is supposed to kick all the other FPSs out of the water, but just looking at the mediocre scores tells me the game was overhyped.

Ouch...well I guess that answers my question about the game. But, still gonna rent it though.

And how much is Subsistence suppose to cost?

I'm getting mixed opinions about Onimusha now. At another spot, that game received a 9/10. (I can't remember which site though.... I might've even been dreaming ^^ )

I'm still gonna check that 24 game out. (big fan)

$29.99 for the regular game.

$39.99 for the Limited Edition.

I am REALLY getting sick of how badly games are getting overhyped these days. *sigh*

an excellent package from Kojima Productions. It'll actually be possible to feel the love radiating from the dvd case.

yea, it's like they focused on purely cosmetic features instead of making a truly engaging game. Weaksauce AI, no multiplayer, and i don't think it's even possible to jump...but the guns and explosions look nice.

I like the TV series too, but the demo version I played seemed okay.

$40 for the Limited Edition isn't bad considering it's "Limited Edition." :D I'll just have to buy it online or something because "MGS2 Substance" wasn't even released over here. :disturb:

When I read about the movie-based settings, such as some areas in "The Usual Suspects" or "Blade Runner", I thought it sounded cool. But, I suspected there was nothing deeper and I guess I was right. OPM gave it a 4/5 though.

Mostly Marc Echo's Getting Up and Black.

Both had extensive articles on how they were the next big thing. Getting Up was supposed to be the next great game that thought outside the box and be the "first true hip hop game made" while it was said that demos shown of Black had left the lucky few who got to see the previews "salivating and begging for more." And it wasn't just that. The same sources continue to repeat things like this about the same games prior to release even after repeated hands-on access to them.

Hype can be good in some instances, but previewers need to be more skeptical and do deeper detective work AND be more careful about what they are telling us.

Of course... if they didn't write interesting articles that hyped things up they wouldn't make as much money would they?

I could go on and on about this, but I won't.

Ugh, that sounds so disgustingly arrogant. "The lucky few who got to see the previews"...as if "Black" was the most supreme game to walk on the face of the planet. When you hear crap like that, you know the game is overhyped.

Anyway, thanks for the article Infernal, I absolutely cannot wait to try out the original MGS games. That is, IMO, the best additional feature they included. :D

i just got the game today, havent had a chance to play it yet. i must get a Network Adaptor to play some Online.

sucks i missed out on the Limited Edition. :shame:

EBgames sold my preordered copy. I even called just to make sure it was there..when i get in, they tell me they sold the last LE about a half hour before I arrived. I'm pissed at them, because I know they will most likely not be recieving anymore LE and try to give me a regular copy. I already filed a complaint with Corporate, and they told me a district manager will be contacting me in 2-5 days..:sarcasm:

Is there anything else that can be done on my end? I could've went anywhere else, but trusted EBgames and apparently they are more concerned with money than costumer satisfaction.

Oh man, that frickin' sucks. Wow, I'm really pissed off at this...this is precisely why I have never bought from EBgames...they really are a bunch of pricks and I've never liked them.

I'm sorry to hear about this but I don't know what else you can do. I have a feeling you won't even hear from the district manager either because, frankly, they are so huge and everyone buys from them that filing a complaint was probably pointless to begin with. :( Let us know what happens.

Infernal Mass Mar 22nd, 2006 11:05 PM

dealing with these guys right now is such a headache because of the merger, the district manager called me..only problem is he is the district manager of the gamespot in maryland..on the otherside of country..luckily, they had one and are shipping it here. I'll probably recieve it in about another week and half. The people over there are much more helpful than the employees here.

merylsilverburg Mar 23rd, 2006 07:57 PM

I'm glad to hear your problem has been dealt with and you'll be receiving your LE copy. :) Perhaps the quality of service in EB depends on the area/region...like the larger the city, the worse the service. *shrugs*

Well now, I have a couple of questions about the different versions of Subsistence:

I was still able to "pre-order" a copy of the game online even after it was released on Tuesday. I paid $39.99 for it...so I was hoping I would receive the LE edition since isn't the $39.99 pricing for the LE edition?

Well, I received it in the mail yesterday and I only got the regular edition but with the pre-order bonus disc that contains an interview with Kojima and the history of the Metal Gear series.

So now I'm a bit confused: is the $39.99 price for the pre-order bonus disc including the game or is it for the LE version without the bonus disc? I was hoping to get the LE edition, not just because of the spiffy cover, but because I wanted the bonus 3rd disc that has the game sequences put together in a movie form. I can't seem the find the LE anywhere.

EDIT: But, I am very happy about the bonus disc...the cover looks great and it's an all-region DVD. Hooray!

TtTackler Mar 23rd, 2006 10:30 PM

From using the new 3d camera in online mode, it's nice.

I got the LE with the third disc and watched it immediately. I was very disappointed in it though. They changed the order of the events of the game, they use the whole 'show future scene, then go back and show everything that lead up to that point' A LOT. But when they get back to that 'future scene', they don't show it again. The pacing of the story is way off, and a lot of stuff is taken out [codec conversation-wise]. Basically, if you never played through the game, you'd have no clue as to what the hell is going on at all.

I've gotten about 3/4 through Metal Gear so far, but I got Ac!d 2 the other day so now that's taking up my time until I can finish that + Snake's Revenge + playing through MGS3 with the new camera.
