PS2 Sound Problems- Please Help!

I have had this sound problem ever since I got my PS2. Every time I put in a DVD, the sound is so....muffled. I have to turn the volume on my TV all the way up, in order to hear a WHISPER! The TV I have is a 14x12 inch. I also have another TV which is your average size but the same sound problem happens when I hook the PS2 to that TV also. My question is: What can I do to fix this problem? Do I have to get speakers or another TV? I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to this stuff, so I really need help! The same problem occurs with my Japanese PS2 and I have Japanese DVDs which I need to see on there. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Well Lets See!

Well I Wish I Could Help, But As U Know I Just Got My PS2, So I Am Not Too Sure.........I Think Thats The Way Ps2 Is Suppose To Work

But There Is This One Strange Thing The SHOP Keeper Told Me When I Was Buying My Ps2. He Said........Dont Use Ps2 As A DVD Player, As Its Lense Would Die Sooner. He Meant That......If The Lense Is Suppose To Live For 4 Years.......It'll Die In 2 Years. Cause Of DVD's (Movies) And Games Being Played On That. It Uses Twice The Power Then. Something Like That!.!

But UVE GOT TWO PS2s!!!!!!! Oh My God!.! Man.....Ure One Hell Of A Luck HUMAN BEING!!!

I'm not sure if you'll be reading this, since you're probably packing for Pakistan but.....I did not know that! Now I'm terrified about using my Japanese PS2! It's sooooo hard to find it especially on Ebay! I just got lucky that day, someone from Japan was selling it. But man-o-man! What am I gonna do? I kinda don't want to waste $$ to buy a Japanese DVD player. That would be so wasteful! But thank you for that info, Makg. The only reason why I would use my Japanese PS2 is so that can watch Japanese DVDs. Otherwise, I would just use it for gaming. I guess I have no choice but to buy a DVD player now.

Makg, you really have to stop believing what people tell you! The shop keeper probably told you that so you would buy more games rather than DVDs. Games give Mr. Shopkeeper more money than DVD sales. See what I'm getting at?

Considering the majority of PS2 games now come on DVD (i.e. those games with silver on the bottom rather than blue or black) playing DVD movies will not make any difference to your lens lifespan!

The PS2 is designed to use DVD format discs, whether they be movies or games. Neither will harm your system.

I've had my PS2 for 18 months now. In that time is has always been on the vertical stand. I have used Audio CDs, PS1 games, DVD films, PS2 format games and PS2 DVD format games. Believe me, if anything goes wrong with my PS2 you lot will be the first to know.

So until then, relax and don't worry. Enjoy your PS2!

Edit: Meryl Silverburg, I too have very low volume from my PS2 when viewing DVDs. But if I use a separate audio out to my Hi-Fi then it's okay. But I have also noticed (much like Audio CDs) that some DVDs are recorded louder or quieter than others... Don't worry - it's not a problem with your PS2. My Pioneer DVD player is also quiet when the sound is coming via the TV, but again when I feed it via my Hi-Fi it's okay. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, S. That's pretty strange about your DVD player. When I play DVDs in mine, the sound is fine! I'm just a bit worried about my Japanese PS2 now. I have tons of Japanese DVDs but I can't hear a thing when I pop it in. I'll try your suggestion, but if it doesn't work for me.....I guess I'll just have to search for a Japanese DVD player. Thanks again! :)
