MGS movie to be released in 2009
It is now certain they'll make a MGS movie scheduled for release in 2009. I thought Kojima said he wanted a famous director for the movie, but I don't know who the hell the person imdb is listing in the credits is? Also, only one movie for all that material, do you think it will be possible? No cast listed for now. Will they pick Bale As Snake as it was rumored some time ago? I honestly doubt it. What do you think?

Everytime I see Bale without a beard - and Snake with a beard wouldn't be ok - I think of American Psycho, so no, I wouldn't want him as the leading man :P
|
I don't like Bale that much (he's okay in the "Batman" films but that's about it) so I wouldn't want him to play Snake. And definitely NOT that Eric Bana guy I hear everyone suggesting. :yuck: I think they should choose unknowns for this film but I highly doubt they will.

Eric Bana?! Oh no :(

Personally I would perfer them to do the whole movie in 3D and perhaps get the orignal voice actors to do the voices. At least that way they don't have to worry about finding an actor that looks like Snake etc... But that's imo anyway.
As for an actor to play as Snake how about Hugh Jackman the guy who played Wolverine (sp?) in X-men and Van Helsing? |

^ These are my thoughts exactly. Also, I honestly don't think Hollywood is ready for a 3D movie like this yet. CG movies have still a long way to go before they can be convincing enough. This is a project they're still not able to handle following their CG standars at the moment.

Wow, what an innovative idea <insert mild smirk>. Only thing we know for sure is making money is what drives both the movie and video game industries to make what they do, so this game would be right up their alley! Hey if they can make a Silent Hill 2 movie (rumored) anything is possible.

I'm still not happy that the movie is going to be made since most videogame films do not translate all that well (I wonder if the new "Max Payne" film will do justice? It coming out way too late though, I'm surprised if anyone still remembers the games). I also think Kojima has gotten way too greedy over the years but hey. :sarcasm: But well, it's still fun to think of potential casting so I've made my list: Snake - Viggo Mortenson (sp?). I dunno, he was okay in LOTR. He kinda has the rugged features of Snake, fits a beard alright...don't know if he can do a gruff voice though. Psycho Mantis - Doug Jones (physically). Jones was the man behind Pan and the Pale Man in "Pan's Labyrinth" and Abe Sapien in "Hellboy" so I think his body structure would be ideal as Mantis. Voice-wise, I guess they can just use someone (possibly the original VO which would be excellent). Emma - Abigail Breslin. I don't know if they'll incorporate Emma at all but I think this girl would do okay. She's a bit tiny and younger than Emma was I think. That's all I have right now. Sorry if it's lame and not more but the main characters (like Otacon, Ocelot, Liquid, etc.) are extremely hard to think of, at least for me. |
Let's just hope that this does not suffer the same fate as the halo movie. Which as scheduled but then pulled due to differences. I agree that Hugh Jackman would make a great snake and I think this would definitely challenge him as an actor.

I like your posts meryl, I think there are some good points in them. But I don't know about Viggo Mortensen. I think he would be a decent choice, but there's something that make me think I wouldn't be able to see him as Snake. He lacks some humor, some irony that I think it's very important in the character. Still a good actor, but not for Snake. the ideal choice would obviously be Kurt Russell, if it wasn't for his age, because you probably know Snake himself was inspired by him. If the movie came earlier.... But seems impossible now.

Thanks Aubrey. :) And good point on Mortensen, I actually didn't think about that. :right: I was too focused on the physical appearance that I didn't think about the other important element: personality, hehe. I haven't seen enough of his films to know whether he can convey that sort of depth so I can't say much. But I know, Kurt Russell would be the ideal choice...too bad we can't go back in time, eh?
