So, you have an old television. The television does not allow you to do subtitles, since it is very old. You tried to put subtitles on through your Playstation 2, and it says that the subtitles are off, even though you tried to put them on.

Am I correct in what I am saying? Because I can't quite understand what you are saying in the last part of your paragraph.

Usually, this will be the cause:

The subtitle language cannot be changed.

Multilingual subtitles may not be recorded on the DVD.
Changing the language for the subtitles may be prohibited on the DVD.

Check your Sailor Moon DVD (usually the back cover) and see if there is support for English Subtitles. If you do not see the option on the back cover (or inside the booklet that usually comes with DVD's), then subtitles may not be able to be viewed. Some DVD's are like that, especially sometimes, if you import them from another country.

But, there could be a problem with your PS2, especially if you have an early version of it. Some of the early versions of the system had problems with DVD's. So...

I want you to do this for me. Find another DVD (most likely a non-Japanese DVD) and see if you can add subtitles to that DVD. If you can, then it might just be that Sailor Moon doesn't allow for Subtitles. I doubt that, though, and I think that something is wrong internally in your Playstation 2.

For further help, check the Playstation 2 booklet that came with your console. It tells you how to accurately do subtitles on the Playstation 2. If you read it, and still have trouble, then like I have said before, your Playstation 2 could have something wrong with it.
