Take-Two of ESPN MLB fame is purchasing exclusive MLB rights (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/01/24/news_6116946.html) starting in 2006. Part of me says, good for them for getting back at EA somewhat. But the other part of me wonders where all this is going. This can't be good for the consumer in the long run that all these companies are starting to go after exclusive rights.

I'm thinking it's kinda sad to see what's going on right now with our sports and racing games. EA has exclusive NASCAR rights, next thing you know they put out the piece of junk that is NASCAR 2005.

Could we be looking at second rate games because of all this exclusive rights crap? I hope not.

The plot thickens and Sega Sports is no more (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/01/24/news_6117016.html). Seems that EA's Microsoft mentality has dealt a huge blow to it's best competition.

Let's hope Take-Two can somehow keep EA honest with some good competition.

Funny thing is, I've always favored EA's games over the others, sports wise, but all this is really making me rethink that.
