There you go. It has been confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be Playstation2 Exclusive. And seriously this news has really made me happy!!! I am so glad for Konami making the right decision. Although I am thinking that later in the future Konami might change their mind. Oh well...... atleast its coming on the Ps2 first.

In about few hours time.....pictures and videos will be on the net. I cannot wait for this!.!.!

Time to discuss the screens and all. Oooh YEAH!!!.! :D

All of them are amazing man. But just analyzing the pics now.

To be honest......I guess I was a little wrong. There is an improvement on Snake. BUT BUT BUT. He for some reason looks young. Could this be a flashback sequence of the game. Could this be Snake thinking of a scene which took place in Zanzibar. I mean the guns and knife (Weapons are used and old)..... and the VERY FIRST pic I posted in this thread.......shows Solid Snake wearing an "EAR PICE".... which is going from his ear to under his cloths. WHICH MEANS, he is not using "CODEC" technology. Why not?....... Because all these pics are actually from the past and coed wasn't invented then? Even in the pic you just posted with him about to slice the soldiers through..you can see the wire going from his ear to his shirt. I may be wrong. As in the jungle.... Codec might not work without wires and all. But oh well...... but he sure does look young in the pics (Keeping his beard aside though).

One more thing...... Soldiers look the same. We need new A.I Look too. Common Kojima you can do it.

but I dont think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

WOW is all I can say. Ok I'll say a more, first that one pic where snake is up against the wall in the mud reminds me so much of Rambow when he goes to vietnam:laugh: It's so cool that the game is taking place out in the jungle, it's reminding me of some parts of the original. Can't wait to see more of this game

This will be a big step, as MGS1 and 2 were in Artificial enviroments, by that I mean buildings. So the area was basically just rectangular. But now its in the Jungle, and this is gonna be so good. More ways to hide than just ducking and dodging :D

Makg, thats a good idea about a flashback, could be true.

Any news on the Story line of the game?

And why the hell is it called Snake Eater, is it just me or is that name kinda sucky?

well heres what "SNAKE EATER" means:

the term refers to elite Green Berets called Snake Eaters. Look at what a real Snake Eater has to say about being one:

S Soldier support is the #1 priority.
N Never say, "it can't be done."
A Accept risk, and allow soldiers to make mistakes.
K Know your soldiers' problems.
E Exact high standards and lead by example.

E Earn your keep - use initiative.
A Acknowledge good deeds publicly; discipline privately.
T Training is not only everything - it is the only thing.
E Encourage employer and family interest and involvement.
R Respect all soldiers, regardless of their rank.

Solid Snake - Ex-Fox-hound, ex-snake eater.

Makg's "flashback" idea is a good one... Damn, I just hope this one is a lot longer than the last one. I'd really enjoy it being at least twice as long as Metal Gear Solid 2 !

Argh! can't wait to see the 'new' villains. They always manage to come up with very unique bad guys.

... Sweet ! :D

MakgSnake
May 14th, 2003, 12:52 PM
Yeah Snake Eater is a military term. I didn't know that..... well then there are alot of things I dont know. Neway.... Kojima mentioned after the conference that to survive in the jungle. Snake would have to eat stuff too.....like Snakes and other animals.... and if you keep feeding him with the same one, he'll start disliking it. And we would have to develop his taste for certain things.

All of this sounds very intresting and I agree with Qjij_jijQ that one the most intresting things are the "NEW VILLANS"....... that is one thing to really look forward to.

Like I made my assumptions and now even read at some internet website that "Snake Eater" does look like a prequal rather then a sequal. But then like I said it could be a flashback we play in the game......... and when ever Kojima discuss Solid Snake's past......Grey Fox is always there. And I believe if this IS the past, we are gonna see Grey Fox, but not in his ninja form but the actual human one. How awesome would that be now?..!

Frozen
May 14th, 2003, 05:06 PM
All those pics have made me horny.

That's all I can say.

But I do not think this is going to be a prequel. Note how this is MGS 3 :Snake Eater and not just "MGS: Snake Eater", I only say this judging by the fact MGS went to MGS2 in a forward chronological order. Even though a prequel with GRay Fox on it would be awsome, I'd rather have a sequel for SOL.

Azuma_Ninja
May 14th, 2003, 09:20 PM
I'm going to agree with Frozen on this being the sequel. I mean as was mentioned earlier the bad guys look the same, so I'm thinking it's still Revolver/Liquid's group of cronies just this time in the jungle. I may be wrong but the title is twin snakes and I can't really think of another man with the codename of snake that would be in the past.

Preventer Wind

I can't wait. The sencond one was a tad bit disapointing but still great and the first one was the bomb diggity.

I think that the screen shots we have seen are some sort of flashback. Maybe it's just a small part of the game but I still think it is set in the past. Basically for all the reasons given before. The weapons are outdated and there appears to be no codec. Though only in the pictures that he has no shirt on does he appear to look any younger. And not by that much any way.

I think the fact that it is in a new setting should give it a little more flavor.

In case you were wondering, Snake Eater was the name given to Green Beret members in Vietnam, so I think it might have something to do with playing a young Big Boss when he served in Vietnam, as he and Snake would look the same.

What do you think Big Boss's codename will be? I Doubt it's gonna be Big Boss as I'd imagine that would be his alias when he took over Outer Heaven.

Holy sh*t, those pics look amazing! All the detail nearly made me faint. :P Thanks Makg and Vic for providing some pics. ^_^

I have nothing else to say because everyone already came up with pretty good theories on story, which I agree would be nice (playing a prequel) but I would prefer to have a sequel to MGS2.

Thats a very difficult question dan, but seeing that Metal Gear Solid was released in October of 1998, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was released in November of 2001 and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is getting a release in November of 2003.......I think Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater would also be released in that part of the year, that is --> "FALL 2004".....

the Zanzibar theory is a decent one, but there is too much mention of the Cold War and the 60's to convince me that this is Zanzibar. However, with this engine and it's jungle environment (which looks fairly nice as well) I'd think that Kojima is seriously considering doing an early Metal Gear remake, especially if MGS3 gets some critical acclaim...

Zanku
May 21st, 2003, 07:35 PM
Yes, it appears it is the Cold War, check out this link, click the picture on the site, notice how the first picture is all Jungle, with planes, the Russian hammer and sickle and the peace symbol... http://www.konamijpn.com/products/mgs3/japanese/index.html

One of those titles say Cold War, and you can see lots of information about those time periods but moving along the tabs. They mention the Cold War, Russia and Vietnam. Section 1963 mentions the Nuclear Race and Space Race - Both US and Russian...
Semipalatinsk is mentioned, which was a Russian Nuclear test site from 1950s to 1990....there again the 1960s link between the times, again Operation Nougat and Operation Dominic are mentioned, both US and Soviet Russian Nuclear testing programs in 1961 - 1962. Also mentions Tonkin Bay!

Strangely enough, Hideo Kojima was born at the end of 1963...this may explain the 60s plot?
Check out the site, as you can see i did some research on the titles mentioned...maybe it has nothing to do with it, but it appears to link MGS3 to Russia, the Cold War, Vietnam, Space and Nuclear bombs...

Check out this i just noticed under each section, i never scrolled down far enough...this just about prooves it is 1960s

Inside the pamphlet, there is shape for paper figure. Hideo Kojima had said that it is a figure for Metal Gear Rex, but he also mentioned that there will be parts left over to reveal a secret weapon for Metal Gear Solid 3.

I heard that the game really focuses on EATING habits of Snake. If you try to feed him only one type of food (animal whatever), that creature would decrease from the game. And HE wouldn't like it much either. And if you dont feed him properly, his stamina or strength meter would go down and his hands would shake while shooting at enimies. I am guessing that he wouldn't be able to climb trees then either and hang from the branches too. Sounds pretty cool eh. Lets see what more we hear soon.

Dark Angel
May 29th, 2003, 06:05 PM
Yeah, I heard that too Makg, sounds cool choosing what to make Snake eat. Hope it's just not a rumour or something, very early days still.

Yes, Rations are there for sure.......but its not like before.......they wont be all over the place.

What I want to know is that will there be a way to cook some of the stuff.... I know in the movie, he is eating everything RAW. But it'd be cool if there was a secret way to cook the meals which would give him extra strength and stamina. :)

It'd be cool to see Snake using some Army Hex grills or Gas Stoves, as a useable item...but i reckon cooking and stuff would be taking it perhaps a little too far...

At the latest interview of Hideo Kojima, when asked about a new gameplay feature, this is what he said. I just love the sound OF IT!.! I cannot take it anymore. I want this game NOW NOW NOW!

GS: Is there a particular new gameplay feature that you’re excited about that will be featured in this game?

HK: There’s this thing called the camouflage index, it’s what kind of camouflage gear you wear, how you paint your face, against what background you stand, all this will really vary whether or not the enemy will see you or you’ll see the enemy. So, this will really add to the stealth element of the game. And you know, the theme of the game obviously is the jungle, but also survival in the jungle, so what you have to do is hunt for food. So, not only are the humans enemies, but you have bugs and animals, and not only are they enemies, but they can be your food. So if you hide wisely, correctly using the camouflage index, you might be able to catch animals that normally you cannot catch. For example, if you see a venomous snake, you can eat it or throw it at an enemy.

Awesome isn't it.
Hey, I was watching the trailer again and one thing I have noticed that wasn't mentioned in any of the interviews or mentioned in the previews of the game. That Snake is able to move forward and backward in first person mode. I dont know if you guys noticed this or not.... or may be it was only for the video purpose but whenever they show Snake in First Person mode, he is going forward in the bushes and coming back as well. Pretty cool...eh. Although I didn't like the First Person mode in Substance, that was not well done.

Zanku
Jun 1st, 2003, 12:50 PM
I think first person moving is better than just third person moving / aiming... With MGS2 you could aim in first person, but the transistion between the regular Metal Gear view (third person) to first person was rather confusing with angles in some situations. I think with being able to move in first person, will make it easier to prepare for aiming and shooting, if you know what i mean, and in the jungle i think this will be more important, because you need to be more ready at all times.

If you see in the movie (right at the end, the bumble bee nest), if you was just waking through the jungle, if you was not going in first person, you would not notice that automatically (maybe only when its too late), so some situations it will be very important to use, and extremely helpful!

The Japanese publication Famitsu revealed a few tid-bits regarding Konami's upcoming game Metal Gear Solid 3 for the Play Station 2. The game was first announced at E3 just a few weeks ago. Not much was know until now.

The most surprising news is the use of Sony's network adapter. Not much is know regarding the on-line component, however, what is know is that Konami will offer downloads monthly.Things such as new camouflage and clothing were represented in the Famitsu article.

Much of Metal Gear Solid 3 takes place in a jungle, and with that you will have to have Snake climb an occasional tree. Be careful though if you fall from the tree you could break a leg. A level may become increasingly difficult when you're hobbling around and dragging a dead leg behind you.

The Jungle also presents a number of obstacles. Players will have to be aware of there surrounding as they walk through the Jungle. Leaves that have fallen from trees should be avoided as they rustle when stepped upon, alerting enemies of your location. Gamers will also be able to cover up footprints, another way that enemies can track you.

Finally, it's been said that C-Rations (health) are going to be very scarce throughout the game. Snake will have to hunt much of the jungle wildlife for a bite to eat this time around. Once the animal has been killed it must be eaten promptly as it will be subjected to the normal decay process that all meat is subjected to. Hope you're not a vegetarian, no word on Tofu patches.

That downloading thing sounds pretty cool, but not many people have Network Adapter still......so alot of them wont be able to use that feature, but hopefully by the end of 2004, they would. I like the sound of avoiding the leaves, but that makes the game too hard. Oh well........all sounds good. A leg break is painful, I wonder if Snake would limp like the Resident Evil characters or not........ it would be cool if he does.

Well for the time being, we dont know for 100% sure if its Big Boss or not. And Kojima is not commenting on it. So yeah everybody is using "SNAKE", as that person looks like Solid Snake.

Whenever Kojima assures who he really is, HE will be called Snake. And although Big Boss's other name was "Saladin"..... We can assume, it was "Saladin Snake"...who knows eh.

But what most of you would like to hear, I DONT, that Kojima said the game will have less storyline and more gameplay. I know that gamplay is very important and people got bugged from MGS2 and its cutscenes, but the Cut Scenes were the essense of that game in my opinion. I hope he puts up more then average cut scenes for the storyline.

Oh by the way no RADAR in the game, as the game is FOR SURE taking place in 60's era and peeps like Otacon and Mei Ling weren't born yet. But for Rookies, they can still turn it on. I know I wouldn't......never!.!

I agree on the bit with you about mgs2 needing all those cut-scenes, I really do hope tht mgs3 just has more storyline as gameplay, you know what its only the proper fans of the series who like all the storyline and cut-scenes, most people (who never really play on it or the series) think where's all the gameplay, to much story line! well if they were a proper fan they would understand, Kojima deserves to know this!
Also the fact MGS3 is going to suck with no codec calls!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! because its in the sixties! (correct me if im wrong)

Well, in the sixties, they didn't use Nanomachines but from this picture, we can see that Snake is still using some kind of equipment (The ear plug is wired though, which is going into his gear) through which he will be able to talk and have conversations. "Fingers Crossed".

Dont forget 1 eyed uncle.

I hope you get to play as both Big Boss and Snake, would be cool to see why Big Boss turned, but MGS2's ending was one of the biggest cliff hangers I've ever seen. If there are 2 chapter I hope they're both long and have equal lengths. I wouldnt minded of playing as Raidan so much if you had just gotten to play as snake for a little longer, not 20 minutes :/ Anyway, MGS3 looks great, kick ass gameplay, levels, graphics, even if it doesnt have a good story it will probably be fun to play.

I'm gonna miss people like Otacon and Mei Ling....

Ah I never noticed the ear piece before, can't see any equipment to talk back though, only reciever.

I've been trying to figure out which gun he's using, I doubt it'll be a SOCOM, firstly as it doesnt look like one and they weren't used by Special Ops in the 60s....they're hardly used nowadays too, not really sure why they keep being used in the MGS games, they are a rather mediocre weapon.

I very much doubt there will be another character aside from Snake or Big Boss, Kojima-san learned that from MGS2.

OK I had another look at the trailer and figured out from the weaponary mainly that it's bound to be set in the 60's and as such as Big Boss, but let's just call him Snake for now, it's easier.

Firstly, Snake uses a M16A1 rifle, in the bit shooting from the water, and as that weapon is now not used anymore (replaced with the M16A2, but I still don't like the M16 ;) ) suggests it set then.

Also goes for the pistol, thank god it's not a SOCOM, but then they can't really use modern guns if it's in the 60's. The pistol looks like a Colt M1911, and aparently a Webly & Scott MK. 1 silencer which was used on the Colt .45 in the Vietnam War. The guards also use the AK-47, not the improved AKS-47U as in MGS2, a notoriously old and obscelete weapon not used anymore.

Secondly, the clothing by both Snake and the guards also look to be from the period, as Snake has webbing (the stuff around his waist) for the M16A1, so same goes for the use of the rifle.

That's all I can think of at the moment, ah my knowledge of weaponary came in sort of handy for once.

The gun looks like a Heckler and Koch USP (but it wasn't released till 1997), Kojima seems to use a few Heckler and Koch weapons though (thats why i thought it looked like USP), for example the PSG-1 in MGS1, and the USP .45 w/ light in MGS2...Anyway...It doesnt matter what gun it is, its whether or not you can use it effectively. I was hoping to see the Fabrique P90 again...but i doubt it (unless the story for MGS3 carries on eventually to what happened at the end of MGS2...then maybe!)

This would mean that alot of things would be missing in MGS3 in terms of Guns and Gadgets. But I am pretty sure the gameplay will make up for it.

When I finished Sons Of Liberty, I thought that in MGS3 we would use that device Ocelot and Fortune used in it. It'll be like a gadget we would get once we have finished the game. No bullet will be able to touch us (ofcourse, it would have a metre which would gradually go down, the more we use it). Still...... but now seeing that the 60's are here......I dont think it'll happen. But who knows, may be the Time Travelling thing that I dream of could be reality in the game.

My whole point about identifying the guns was to show that it must be set in the 60's due to the age of the guns, and no I'm pretty sure it's not a H&K USP, same goes with no seeing the P90 because of the period it's set in!!

Anyway, I do like the P90, shame you could use it in MGS2 or Substance, despite the fact it really is an ugly gun...looks like a black slab of steel from the side on...

In real life you dont have a radar... I reckon you might be able to get intel, from recon or something...like possible enemy locations, maybe you will have a map of the jungle, or of the buildings? A good feature would be the map, and when you get information from radio, it marks the locations on, and possible waypoints of the enemy :phew: But, who knows what Kojima will come up with?

I didnt like the radar in MGS series - I like games to be realistic - so if its no radar it will probnably be more suprising with enemies etc.:ghost:

Have to disagree, i think the P90 is beautiful...so smooth and sexy, its quite feminine in a way, its a great gun.

I love the part where Solidus destroys the mass produced Metal Gear Rays with the P90...so cool, the way he spins the gun around, oh and before someone says it, in my opinion it's not completely out of the realm of reality for the P90 to be able to pierce Metal Gear Ray's cockpit since it fires at such a high rate and packs so much ammunition

Another of my favorite guns is Revolver Ocelot's Colt .45 Single-Action Army Revolver...i love that gun :phew: Admittedl, he probably makes it looks alot cooler than it is

I love the P90's "Snubby" Barrell, Even though I love long barells, look so much cooler, exception being the P90. It looks odd, yet sexy :\

Long barrels are too clunky... They just look cool...which isn't everything, the P90 is exceptional, the 5.44mm rounds are odd for an SMG, but they are so reliable and powerful, ergonomic and has an ambidextrous design, which are all housed in a sexy body... Odd...i sound like a gun seller! On a side note, Marui airsoft sell a P90 automatic BB gun

Just out of interest...Why was Solidus about ten years older? I thought all the clones were made at the same time :peoples: ???

Heh, the MG storyline has more holes than swiss cheese at times. Entertaining still though. Was Solidus definately older than Snake though? Maybe he just looked older? Kinda weird character Solidus, old looking dude who used to be the president, used kids to kill people and has some mad octupus suit...

Well Vamp was even stranger though. I think they were really pushin the limits of reality with that character, now its turning all into fantasy now, immortal vampires... :\

Maybe we will have a mission to kill Vamp with a wooden Stake!

I dunno if there are that many holes in the story...i cant think of that many, maybe we should make a thread to note holes in the story and discuss them...many things that i thought were missing have been answered to fit in correctly...

I have to agree the p90 is a excellent weapon and bad ass, is it a new weapon? Like been made in the recent years, or been around for a long time?

Also when Solidus shot Olga in the haed with the P90! OUCH! hole in her forehead and a snapped neck, quite emotional seeing she sacrafised herself!

I just got my copy of GMR magazine and it has a Metal Gear Solid 3 on the cover, I was so excited when I saw that!.! It looks beautiful and has details for Twin Snakes Boktai and ofcourse MGS3.

But strangly the magazine has new images of the game (even Twin Snakes), which I havn't seen before even on the net. Which is actually very cool. They are of the same envoirnment though. Snake's hair is light brown (blondish) type. Getting more closer to Big Boss...I believe.

Some new details on the eating system, and some other very interesting new details inside.. Two thirds of the gameplay area will be natural environments (jungle in the main), with the last third taking place in man-made areas (which we take to mean buildings)

There are online features in the game (we have no idea what these are besides scores, no doubt)

Rustling leaves and heavy footfalls will give you away to the enemy (not certain if this includes brushing up against shrubbery)

You have to hunt living things for food and you can track animal footprints. A nice touch is that it appears the carcass of your prey will rot after an hour of game time, so you can't store tons of fish and snakes in the earlier (and presumably easier) part of the game to get you through to the end

Further, Snake has an energy-type meter relating to his eating habits and munching just one kind of prey isn't on. The 'nutritional value' of a given food type continually decreases each it's eaten. So stick with snakes continually, and snake number 10 (or whatever) will have the 'nutritional value' of a fava bean

The import of all this eating business is that if snake doesn't get a balanced diet, as we see it, he starts to suffer deficiencies that lead to unwanted side-effects, such as an uncontrollable shake in his hands - not good for shooting

Vehicles are in there in some form and fashion and are used to track you

There is the possibility of breaking a leg when jumping from a high point. Is this game over, limp city, or miracle jungle cure? We don't know...

Unlockable features and weapons will be in there

The game's whole interface has gone back to basics, with no in-game radar The food aspect of the game is potentially the most interesting addition to the MGS series that we've come across so far and having no radar is a good decision in our book.

Ok I recently bought this month's GAMEPRO magazine and they keep mentioning in their preview that Snake Eater will be coming out "Early 2004"...... and not once but through out the preview. I dont know how they got that info. But if its true.......I will be the happiest man on planet earth. Well like I already am, because I got the SNAKE EATER 12 minute TRAILER on this month's PSM MAGAZINE!.! :D

Oh by the way...... Kojima also said that

"The game will not have a character change in Snake Eater, but a something similar surprise would be there half way through the game"...

And now this is what I am guessing the surprise would be..

The first part of the game will be a pure prequal.... us playing as BIG BOSS. It'll show how he reached the status of LEGENDARY SOLDIER and all, and what actually happened to him. And After 50% of game complition.....the story will change and SNAKE EATER will actually become a TRUE SEQUAL. We will play as Snake...."In the same jungle area, and same places, but it'll be present time....not 1960's. So it'll be 50 years later or something. That could be a SIMILAR SURPRISE KOJIMA HINTED AT. Because it is a Character change but because Big Boss and Solid Snake are look alike....it wont make much of a difference. All this also include that when playing As Solid Snake, we'll see the parts of jungle and some building which now have been torn down or destroyed because of the war that happened there 50 years ago. It'll be cool..... but all this is my assumptions......... :D

AHH, you got me excited, cool news MakgSanke, I was hoping for a xmas release 2004, but the earlier the better, lets hope they dont rush it.;) Your spoiler is probally right, no Sanke in MGS3 will be then end of metal gear, the fans will be MAD I tell you, so yeah 50% big boss in the 60s and 50% sequal, sometihng like 2 years after the big shell or even earlier, but lets hope then 50% (or how many) are atleast 25 hours each, of stealth and wicked gameplay, and make it more and 1 disk!!!! Kojima, like MGS1 that was the best, put the story not on diffrent disks, just like metal gear solid, when you walk down the stairs and you have to load the next disk!

I dont know..... I WOULD LOVE IT IF ITS on 2 DVD disk. Just imagine........ one whole disk for Big Boss and the next WHOLE for Solid Snake. Like that we'll have more gameplay and storyline.

Putting it on one disk would mean...... again 15 to 20 hours of gameplay. I want more then that. But I really doubt that KOJIMA would put it on 2 DVD disk.

Although I am glad the game will feature 5.1 surround even in gameplay this time around. :)

The only reason MGS was two discs was because psone discs could not hold that much information. PS2 dvd discs can hold massive amounts of data so the game would have to be well, well over 25 hours long for it to be two discs.

Thats exactly what I am saying. I want Kojima to put soo much in the game, that he would require to put the game on 2 DVD disk. Just imagine... how amazing would that be. If one disk does 25 hours..... two would do 50 hours or something. I am REALLY FINE WITH THAT.!.!. :D

Only 25 hours on one disk? That must mean games like this take up more memory than some other games, some RPGs are like 80 or even 100+ hours.

you see as in psone ff games they take up around 4 CD discs.

on PS2, Final Fantasy X only takes one DVD disc and as trunks here said, RPG's can take up to ..well a long time onto one disc.

so i'm guessing that as MGS2 is short (TOO SHORT!)

they could have fitted in more.

and well, Metal Gear Solid 3 is going to ROCK!

whether or not it has 1 disc, 2 discs or 3.

i dont care, but I STILL WANT 2 DISCS!!!!!!

or more, hideo that would be good.

and i know this is completely irrelevant to this but the other day i played Konami's other game ZOE (zone of the enders)
i havent played ZOE 2. I normally dont play japanese mech games, (on the exeption of metal gear as it is a mech ..i guess)

but i noticed that the mech thing you control looks STRIKINGLY

similar to Metal Gear RAY.

seems right as it came out just before they released MGS2.

and ZOE came with a MGS2 trailer DVD.

ZOE is truly a weird game.

Anyway,

BACK 2 METAL GEAR TALK!!!!!!
