Confused Baby !

Hi all, recently I've been struck by the power of PS2 (playing GT3 really drives me to the wall.hehe.POWER !!!) and now am contemplating in getting a set for myself. The thing that confuse me the most is the SCPH xxxxx number attached to the set. I have been to lotsa gaming shop and enquiring them about this but till now no one can give an exact answer. Are all the compnents, eg lens,motorised part and etc affected by the number? Or is it just a number to represent a new model to an old one ? An old model lens causing a lot of problem eg SCPH30001 series.I hope someone here could explain or direct me to an informative website regarding this. All comment is greatly appreciated. By the way, the shop owner says if you wanna mod ur set. DMS3 is the way to go. Is it true? How about Messiah 2 pro chip and the rest ? Thanks

I cnat direct you to any websites except this one (if PS2F doesnt have it no website has it) but what I can tell you is that as far as I know it is just a new model number. Some of the older ones like the one you mentioned had a laser defect in them but this was then fixed and the updated versions got a new model code.
