I have to get this game. I heard that its cutscenes can be 40 minutes or more a piece, and you can save during them. I wish they had that option in MGS2.

I think that comic is a little too harsh. At least there's supposed to be more gameplay than video, unless you can't skip the cinemas then it should be worth playing more than once.

I'm about 5 hours into the game..

KOS-MOS is a badass.. can't wait to use her later on, nice graphics, the game is deffinately a rebirth of the sorta universe Xenogears had. Cutscenes aren't as painful as i thought they'd be either.

I had to stop right before going back to Shion quarters, because my Stereo started buggin' out do to my cat messing around with the wires. I'm taking my time on this one, it's gonna be a long ride i can already tell.

Shion's cute;) Why isn't she real?:frust: Well I don't have much to add since I just started it last night, but I will say a few things. First of all, I've gasped several times already. Second of all, a battle system in an rpg has never earned my liking this fast before and it's a blast. Third of all, the story runs very deep and stands before me like an ominous storm I would almost be afraid to enter (if I were a wimp:laugh:) It's like taking that first bite of a new favorite meal.

at the point where i'm at it seems there are some characters and terms similar to XG but nothing directly linking the two . Just a lot of Dejavu, it seems as if Takahashi put things in intentionally, but sort of added some new elements to them.

BTW the game has me hooked..it's alot better than FFX IMO. Kos-mos is a badass.

Indeed

But don't forget Ziggy, he's a great character, seems real deep and is quite strong physically, and he's a mercenary so that always plays out well with me...I'm just not too fond of the name "Ziggy"

I don't know if I like it better than FFX yet, the story already has far out weighed FFX...but we'll just have to see, far too early to compare.

I'm not too fond of some of the character models, they look too plain and childish to me, and I'm not too fond of the whole space environment, I like my RPG's to take place in wooded areas, deserts, snow capped mountains, vast oceans...in other words on some sort of planet, so hopefully we'll be landing on one...other than that, I've gotten used to the battle system so far and the story is really lifting off...great game so far

Shion isn't real? Do you mean Kos-Mos?

I think this game is much better then FFX so far but I really didn't like FFX outside of the sphere grid, LuLu  and Blitzball. I've played Dark Cloud 2 for about 14 hours and I am no longer interested in playing it thanks to this game. The gnosis (check spelling) remind me of the bad creatures from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. The battle system is great and the game is just hard enough where you can't just do the same move over and over until the battle is over. The cut scenes are great and you can skip them.

I have heard it said that Gears is about the fifth episode (of more than 5), and that it would be remade (well, given the current pace of the saga being released, games will be about 4 generations on from now, so It would make a fair bit of sense.). Thats probably just speculation unless the head guy actually did say it...

Xenogears resembles what the fifth episode of the Xenosaga will be about.

It will involve Deus and the two beings that first started life on the planet where Xenogears took place

However, it will not be a direct remake, as Xenogears was firstly done by Squaresoft and the rights belong to them.

i know exactly what you mean. In fact I assume that they and their respective universes created in the games they're in are all real most of the time except maybe once a month I pinch myself and realize "oh yeah..." Does this mean I spend too much time with videogames? No, it just means I am lucky to have a gifted imagination. IN fact, contrary to popular and soon to become former belief, gamers are some of the most imaginative people around, as games are certainly no longer about just zapping aliens and resemble the engrossing experience of an intense book or movie.

Mindless people with blank meaningless stares at a screen we are not!!! Oh how much of a joy it is to share this era with such great fellow gamers! Rejoice!

They are basically half man/half angel.. they're supposed to be some in the new tomb raider game. Although they aren't going to look quite as friendly.

I'm gonna start playing it, but my friend said it's official, to him the game sucks. It went from rocking, to having long cut scenes that turned him off, to just straight out sucking in his opinion.

I kind of agree with that... Cutscenes and cg's are cool and all, but when you only get like 2 minutes of game time in between cutscenes, that's just wrong.

Like on the ship when you're supposed to deliver the commander his plate of food... After a REALLY long cutscene, you deliver his food, then there's another long cutscene.

 it took me forever to find that Cherenkov. I went around exploring every part of the elsa before i found him..if i remember i even got in a some xenocard games. The best thing about rpgs is, you can basically play the game at any pace. Rushing thru to the end or to meet each new objective has never been the case for myself. In my view that's just a waste.. i could see if i rented the game or something like that. However, for me with RPG's i take my time.

It's always good to explore in Xenosaga..some of those emails are triggered by certain locations.

Hero
Mar 13th, 2003, 04:21 PM
lol You don't understand. There is no "soaking" in Xenogears. They might as well have made it a movie. You don't get to explore that much, you can run around and linger and hear people say the same stuff. The sad reality is that deep inside after about 10 hours into the game, you're afraid to complete a new objective because you know there's going to be flashbacks and cutscenes and cg's.

The one thing i hate about Xenogears is when they say "Like that incident..." WHAT INCIDENT! WHAT!? TELL ME!!! THIS IS THE FIRST EPISODE!!! THIS IS WHERE ALL THE INCIDENTS HAPPEN!!!

Hero

Get some popcorn and a drink to go with it. Trust me on this one. I've played every RPG since Final Fantasy 6 on SNES. This is the worst amount of dead time in an RPG I've ever experienced. Especially for a one-DVD game.

Here's a tip... When you get the chance, FIGHT... Fight til your thumb hurts... Fight until every monster on the map is dead and gone to afterlife, because for one, there's so many cutscenes you don't even realize a boss fight has started, and then you're too weak and too low on supplies to even tickle him with an attack, and for two, it's so rare to get items in this game you have to fight and hope that items come up from dead monsters.

Hero....geez...it's not that bad. Sure there are a lot of cutscenes but they are great. They are better then having to read for 10 minutes straight . There has only been one time where I wanted the cutscene to end and it wasn't that I was bored it was that I had to leave.

What boss fight did you find to be that difficult? The last one on the Woglinde was hard because nobody was that strong in your group. But that one was easy for me... As has every one after (I've died twice through out the whole game)

I find myself selling off a lot of items. At first you don't get a lot of items but once you get about 15 hours into the game you start to get enough items. Plus you get to go back and visit past areas to pick up important items you missed and to strengthen your characters. Maybe you have not played enough yet?

I like this game more then any Final Fantasy I have played with the exception of VII.
