Is Video Girl Ai hentai?

I haven't watched or read VG AI, but I know something about it.
So, even if I know it has a sort of plot, very repetitive and not much linear, I was wondering if it's hentai or not.

It's very popular, also among young people, so that's why I think it's not hentai. Am I wrong?

Um.....I don't think it's a hentai, otherwise the manga wouldn't be in the Animerica mag. I've never watched or read it, so I can't really tell you. Maybe someone else can?

VG AI is not Hentai. It's something in the middle. There are lots of scenes with naked parts and stuff, but not sex, so it's not real pornography. Also, as you said, VG AI has a story (teen-agers would like it, probably...) and it's not only based on nudity.

VG AI is about a guy called Yota. This guy is not good at all in relationships with girls, becuase he's too shy and also...a bit stupid IMO :p
Well, he's in love with his friend Moemi, but this girl is in love with Yota's best freind. So Yota is very depressed, but he decides to help Moemi becoming his friend's girlfriend.
One day, coming back home he finds a videoshop called Gokuraku Club, if I'm not wrong. This is not a normal shop: in fact only people kind of heart can see it. Yota rents a sort of porn video because the girl on the cover (Ai Amano---> the videogirl of the title) looks very cute.
When he comes back home and inserts the vhs in the recorder a supernatural event happens:
Ai comes out from the TV...

Obviously the rest of the story is mainly about the odd relationship between Ai, Yota and other girls. Being Ai a videogirl, she's not a normal person (I don't even know if she's a person :D). She has to help Yota to solve his problems with the opposite sex. But there are many difficulties during the story.:roll:

Video Girl Ai isn't hentai, though it has nudity and lot's of sexual themes.
Masakazu Katsura's manga usually revolve around teenage/young adult love as the theme so to be realistic in the scenes he has sexual situations (even though they can be a bit gratuitous at times) in them.
His story telling and art really is great though, so if anyone here wants to check out more of his work I'd really recommend I"s (Dna^2 and Shadow Lady are also good, but not as much).

I don't think it's anywhere near hentai. I think the story is boring, I don't like the animation or drawings that much, and it was kinda slow.

It's not for kids though. there are a few real bad scenes in it. Like chicks masterbating and stuff like that.

But SSSnake, I'm sure you'll like it.

It's not drawn that well, like Ninja Scroll, Photon, Wicked City, or Golgo. But it's better than Heavy Metal and a few others.

Um....Heavy Metal? I've never heard of that anime.....do you guys mean Black Heaven? If you are, I heard that was pretty good, but I never saw it myself, 'cause it sounded kinda weird to me too. But, I agree with Cannibal though. I've never seen Video Girl Ai, but the drawings to me are not my type and if it has a lot of weird, bad scenes like what Cannibal said....sorry, not for me. I'm no saint, but I just don't like anime like that. At least Sakura Diaries had none of that....well....not TOO much....

Video girl Ai anime is bad, but the manga is very well drawn: lots of details and female bodies are perfect. It's one of the best looking manga I've read, the problem is the story that is nearly non-existant... :sarcasm:
